The right managerial appointment will be key to how Brechin handle any transition to non-league. Assuming there's a managerial change.

Given that Paton has 4 years left on his contract, the Aberdeen-based training option might not seem all that attractive (I presume he's Central Belt based these days).

I edited my post shorty after you quoted it to factor in finances, but even then, it would probably need to be a considerable wage increase for players to travel out of town.  We'd realistically need to be Tayside or Grampian focussed as we couldn't have it both ways unless we were seriously minted by HL standards.

Also, certainly at the moment, I can't really see Tayside juniors willfully choosing to join the HL for travel reasons.  The reward : faff ratio just seems far too low.

The Shire did.

And I think Berwick did as well, tho we’re still comfortably highest in the league.

.

He was living in Greenock during his time with us and will have unlikely had reason to change that since.  Has he got work away from football now?

Given that he was full-time at Queens until 2020, I seriously doubt he'll have picked something up during the Covid years.  I'd imagine that his Brechin wages might just be enough to keep his NI pension contribution years going.

Player/manager at Brechin throughout Covid whilst based in Greenock takes some level of beating in the shite year awards.

Depends on what you mean by being competitive (i.e. being part of a title race or just being better than the likes of Strathspey).

Do you think we'd be able to convince players from Dundee to commit to travelling beyond Inverurie every second week rather than play in the upper echelons of the juniors?  If not, then you have to ask what Brechin can offer Aberdeen lads that the more local Locos, Formartine etc can't.  A dual carriageway for convenience?

A fundamental issue is where the players would train.  If we'd want to attract players from both Tayside and Aberdeen then it would need to be in / around Brechin as I seriously doubt that folk would travel from Dundee to Aberdeen for midweek training or vice versa.  However, if it was to be in Brechin, then you'd need to ask why Aberdeen-based players would travel 45 mins out of town when other HL sides are effectively coming to them for training.  That's only going to happen if we want to attract a bang average HL standard player at best, unless finances play a part.  However, if we trained around Aberdeen then you'd imagine that reasons for an Aberdeen-based player opting for Fraserburgh, Buckie or Deveronvale over Brechin would need to be financial, especially if City retained their core support.

Basically, if we wanted to be top end of the table competitive then I reckon we'd need to commit to being Aberdeen or Dundee focussed, and I think that the thought of tapping both isn't particularly realistic.

Most players will travel if the £ is right.

Guys cancel the pyramid lowland boys have sold you and everyone else down the swanny.

What does it have to do with the Highland Pyramid considering they aren't joining here? Let me remind you that the HFL fairly recently rejected ICT entering a colts team...

If the SPFL clubs remain opposed to colts then it vastly reduces the Highland League's chances of any more promotion spots opening up.

No it doesn’t.

If LL want Colts that’s fine but unless LL team wins the league and are legitimate champions then play off should be directly HL Champion v Club 42.

Ridiculous that HL Champion should be expected to play off against third place LL team for opportunity to enter the spfl.

It clearly does. Why would the SPFL clubs vote for a second relegation spot if they are increasing their chances of being relegated into a league polluted with youth teams?

As I understand it the Colts are only there to play friendlies so you will have a LL team finishing top? Before anyone has a pop I’m against the whole Colts idea.

They're not friendlies as that defeats the supposed purpose of the project. They will be a part of league fixtures. The Lowland League believe they can nominate a team that finishes 2nd or 3rd as their champion for the SPFL Play-off by "removing" the OF Colts results at the end of the season. Probably hoping that a Colt team doesn't finish top to cause them further issue.

As a Rangers or Celtic youth team claiming to be Lowland League Champion 2021-22 while the LL nominates someone else isn't going to play well with Club 42/lower level SPFL clubs.

As I understand it, the points against Colts will not be removed from the LL teams points total so a LL team could be declared Champions due to their results against the Colts. Pot luck then if the Colts  decide to try a new formation or play fringe squad players because to them, results don’t matter.

It's a complete mess.

What financial commitment (compensation) have Celtic & Rangers made to the LL and its' clubs. Earlier 'promises' were made, but have they been formally agreed.

£50k in total.

After admin costs, extra policing/stewarding/segregation (perhaps), clubs will be lucky to get a grand or two each in their hippers.

Disgusting behaviour.

It makes you think the LL will be running two league tables. One with and one without! The LL clubs will certainly need to keep track of where they are in relation to promotion so the one without them. It really does seem like a joke...

Is there any update on tier 6 for the highland league? seemed to have gone a bit quiet on that front.

You'll have to be patient and wait for the AGMs of the leagues involved.
