If the SPFL clubs remain opposed to colts then it vastly reduces the Highland League's chances of any more promotion spots opening up.

No it doesn’t.

If LL want Colts that’s fine but unless LL team wins the league and are legitimate champions then play off should be directly HL Champion v Club 42.

Ridiculous that HL Champion should be expected to play off against third place LL team for opportunity to enter the spfl.

It clearly does. Why would the SPFL clubs vote for a second relegation spot if they are increasing their chances of being relegated into a league polluted with youth teams?

As I understand it the Colts are only there to play friendlies so you will have a LL team finishing top? Before anyone has a pop I’m against the whole Colts idea.

They're not friendlies as that defeats the supposed purpose of the project. They will be a part of league fixtures. The Lowland League believe they can nominate a team that finishes 2nd or 3rd as their champion for the SPFL Play-off by "removing" the OF Colts results at the end of the season. Probably hoping that a Colt team doesn't finish top to cause them further issue.

As a Rangers or Celtic youth team claiming to be Lowland League Champion 2021-22 while the LL nominates someone else isn't going to play well with Club 42/lower level SPFL clubs.

As I understand it, the points against Colts will not be removed from the LL teams points total so a LL team could be declared Champions due to their results against the Colts. Pot luck then if the Colts  decide to try a new formation or play fringe squad players because to them, results don’t matter.

It's a complete mess.

What financial commitment (compensation) have Celtic & Rangers made to the LL and its' clubs. Earlier 'promises' were made, but have they been formally agreed.

£50k in total.

After admin costs, extra policing/stewarding/segregation (perhaps), clubs will be lucky to get a grand or two each in their hippers.

Disgusting behaviour.

It makes you think the LL will be running two league tables. One with and one without! The LL clubs will certainly need to keep track of where they are in relation to promotion so the one without them. It really does seem like a joke...

Most players will travel if the £ is right.

...and Brechin can always train in Aberdeen somewhere through the week rather than at Little Kerse in Grangemouth if they are in the HL.

Is there any update on tier 6 for the highland league? seemed to have gone a bit quiet on that front.

You'll have to be patient and wait for the AGMs of the leagues involved.

George Manson takes over top Highland League role at AGM

 By Paul Chalk

 May 25, 2021, 6:00 am

George Manson has been elected as the new president of the Highland League.

The Turriff United chairman was handed the role at Monday’s annual general meeting.

Raymond Cardno stepped down as president after three years at the helm after the most challenging period when the effects of Covid-19 halted the action.

After a vastly shortened last term, Brora were named as the champions and contested the pyramid play-off, losing 6-1 on aggregate to Lowland League champions Kelty Hearts.

On Sunday, Kelty won the pyramid final 3-1 on aggregate against League Two’s Brechin City, who are destined for the Highland League, despite reports suggesting they would prefer dropping into the Lowland League.

Champions of tier six leagues to get play-off chance

HFL secretary Rod Houston said: “Fixtures will be announced in due course once we know what Brechin City are doing.

“Everyone was content to leave them right now to lick their wounds because it will still be sore. The season starts on July 24.”

The door for teams in tier six – the North Caledonian League and North Super League – to contest for a place in the HFL opens next season after that move was formally agreed.

Houston added: “There is no automatic relegation. If the clubs at the top clubs in tier six meet the criteria for joining the Highland League there would be a play-off.”

Also in Monday’s AGM, Formartine United’s Sandy Sinclair has stepped up from junior to senior vice-president and Inverurie’s Gordon Booth is to be elected junior vice-president.

Forres Mechanics returning this summer

Houston confirmed Forres Mechanics, who took a season out due to Covid concerns, will returned as “valued members” and Brora will contest the group stages of the League Cup this summer.

Hopefully the lack of Midland League in the play-off is just because it's not been formally created yet or something, and they can add it in.

And hopefully waiting on Brechin part is just because no one's answering the phones or emails.

Might be a case of waiting to see if they put in some sort of protest but definitely a bit strange. Hopefully the no Midland League mention angle is because they need to wait on the SFA ratifying it or the P&J journalist isn't fully up to speed. Time will tell. I am sure we will soon hear from certain posters based in Dundee if there was an issue at the HL AGM.

Bit shite that they're not having automatic relegation/promotion although I imagine any play-off during the first few seasons would be almost a formality.

Should be a formality.

More intrigued by how they will attempt to schedule it all.

If it was only the north region and NCL not a lot was likely to happen quickly beyond swapping BoD for Fort William assuming as appears to be implied that it is capped at 18. With the Midland League on board even the likes of Deveronvale and Keith should have some concerns about where they will be playing in another decade or so. Think the absence of any further official announcements or hissy fits from the Dundee area after the P&J story is good news as they probably need to wait for the SFA AGM for it to all be fully ratified.
