In the article, several students detail ways that they make money alongside working on their degrees, such as selling T-shirts and jewellery or household items. This is called a "side hustle". The article even touches on students working in the sex industry, as escorts or selling photograph or used underwear via social media. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-49295041 I've seen the term "!side hustle" used a bit on social media and it seems like a modern buzzword to make your weekly trip to sell your old shite at a car boot sale sound like you are running a huge drug ring. However, the idea of having a second income makes sense, you don't want to be entirely reliant on a single source for your money and if you can utilise your time to make more money you can pay off your mortgage quicker or go on fancy holidays if that's your preference. Do any P&Bers have a "side hustle" that generates significant income? What term other than "side hustle" can we use for this? Mackie The Staggie Posted August 12, 2019 Share Posted August 12, 2019 The term "Side Hustle" is used a hell of a lot on Linkedin at the moment, it's a useful indicator to find which idiots have fallen for the "Be Your Own Boss" multilevel marketing scam and are now stuck with a shit ton of candles or tubs of protein powder in their garage..... I do a lot of sports photography and have being quite fortunate this year to have a few paid jobs from it this year. I've managed to sell the commercial rights to some of my photos from this years Isle of Man TT races to a rider and his sponsor. Even had a number of parents wishing to purchase photos of their children (steady now) at games or in the mini moto's, although the hit rate between parents wanting to buy and those that actually do is about the same success ratio that Mcleish had at Scotland. Even managed to have a few photos in the papers but really hate dealing with them (always claim they never have funds to pay photographers, many a time I've walked away rather than allow my image to be used free of charge.) Thistle_do_nicely Posted August 12, 2019 Share Posted August 12, 2019 was genuinely looking at driving for Uber Eats recently but opted not to, gut feeling is that it'd eat up quite a lot of fuel plus I've only just renewed the car insurance and can't be arsed with getting the insurance updated to reflect commercial use too rather than just social and commuting - would be curious if anyone's got any experiences of driving with them either directly or second hand, though. I did do a data entry job on backshift along with a full time job for a wee while a few years ago - while it was neat getting a weekly wage for the data entry stuff on top of the full time monthly wage (which I'd guess would be one of the main perks to working two different jobs = greater cash flow) it got a bit much in the end, just got the one full time job at the minute. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I tried delivering for Hermes. Not too bad, but was worried about the dodgy looking insurance add on they had. And the wear and tear on the car from switching on and off every 50 yards or so. Good points were a fair bit of flexibility timewise, and the money was a bit better than expected. Whether it's worth doing is totally dependent on what route you get, and whether your car is worth protecting from continual stopping and starting, or just leaving it running while you're up a block of flats. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
