Stenhousemuir -vs- Albion Rovers

Recommended Posts

Here we go, lads - the big one, the one we've all been waiting for, the bout to knock the other guy out! It's the first game of the season and it's Stenhousemuir taking on Albion Rovers at Ochilview on Saturday.

I do not look forward to matches against Albion Rovers. No matter how bad a side they are, they seem to have a hex over the Warriors and almost always beat us. They could have lost their last 1000 matches and still get the better of us. Kevin Harper deserves a lot of credit for how he turned around last season's shambolic squad and the way they leapfrogged Berwick Rangers at the foot of the table. I reckon there's a degree of optimism around Coatbridge; they might be an outside shout for the top four!

That said... I can't wait to get going at the weekend. Our team is perhaps lacking the razzmatazz to challenge for the title but we should be pushing for the play-offs and beating sides like the Rovers at home is a perfect indicator as to how well we'll get on. We were better than Cowdenbeath at the weekend and that's given me some confidence going into this encounter. I think we all know how Stenhousemuir will line up, with the exception of the middle of the park. We can choose from Thomas Halleran, Jamie McKernon, Marky Munro and Dylan Dykes; I think we'll continue with the two who featured against the Blue Brazil.

- Mark McGuigan -

- David Hopkirk -

- Alan Cook - Marky Munro - Dylan Dykes - Liam Scullion -

- Aidan McIlduff - Andy Munro - David Marsh - Scott McLaughlin -

- Graeme Smith -

I fear Albion Rovers but I'm cautiously optimistic we can claim a narrow win. I reckon their supporters will probably feel the same way.

Bring McKernon in for Munro in midfield and I’m happy with that.

What’s Chris O’Neil’s status? We haven’t seen him for a couple of weeks

Looking at that team I reckon were not far away from a really cracking first XI, if we had a proper “first pick” central midfielder then it’d be looking really good. At the moment it’s any 2 from 4 or 5 bodies at the moment. Maybe still potential to get someone in there?

O'Neil is injured and I think McKernon could be as well

Who is McNeil?

Regards O'Neil, McKernon, Gibbons etc. I'd suggest an update on those should have been asked to Balmer post match on Saturday when interviewing him.

That would have been information the fans don't know and good to know as opposed to asking if we have picked a side for next Saturday when we still have two training sessions to go.

Just a suggestion to improve not a criticism. Think of the things the fans would want to know not any old nonsense.

Saturday is going to be a difficult game there is no gimme in this league now that Harper has transformed Albion Rovers.

I really have so much respect for what that guy has done there.

The team picks itself I'd suggest the only place up for grabs is who plays alongside Dykes but if the suspensions are true then Munro should remain in charge of the jersey.

I'll go for 3-1 Warriors. Marsh, Munro and a brace for Mr Goals.

Aye, according to a chat the chairman had with supporters in the Wee Bar before yesterday's match, there's still money sloshing around to bring in the right player. He reckons we could do with adding another two (a midfielder and a striker).

O'Neill and McKernon were both watching the game on Saturday. I didn't see Kieran Gibbons though.

Other than Scullion for Brandon (or is it Duke?) I can't see any changes. Even if O'Neill is fit I can't see how you can drop McLaughlin after his last two performances.

I usually do ask about injuries but forgot to do so.

Pretty sure the preview for the game said that all of the players were available but a few faced a fitness test.

Which has absolutely nothing to do with who will be available for the first league game. I really to despair at times trying to get a point across to you.

Ooft! You fell for an old one there, Eddie 🤣

Anyway, I think we'll win 2-0 on Saturday; Euan East with his first senior hat-trick!

Yes. I've been on to Victim Support and a counsellor is coming round this morning.
