Aberdeen v Hearts

Recommended Posts

Sore one to take after taking the lead.  I think a draw would've been about fair, we weren't great first half but Aberdeen never exactly created much.  As has been said you can't expect to make the mistakes we did and win, too many individual errors.  Hickey you can excuse, Berra and Dikamona less so.

Thought the difference with Naismith in the team was visible, hopefully he can stay fit.  I don't think it was just him though, we changed the formation and upped the tempo, Washington helped with that.

Find Aberdeen moaning about us being dirty a bit rich, they were hardly shy.  Ferguson should've walked.

Bit of a crossroads for Levein now.  Win the next two and we are in the quarters of the LC and the league start isn't awful.  Lose them and we have Celtic away to come and are out the cup.

How did Funzo play?

He looked quite tidy without standing out. Not a huge amount going on in that area of the pitch of note.

Any truth that Jobbie Zlamal is having his gloves sponsored by Lurpak?

I want to like Bobby, but him and Dikamona need to go.

On a positive note, McGinn and Hedges made a huge impact. We do seem to have more depth in attacking areas now, but there was quite a pronounced difference between them and the players they replaced. Hedges demonstrates excellent technique for the winner; McGinn gets the free-kick for the red card, uses his experience to draw the penalty, then gets the touch to set-up Hedges' goal. It's nice to see Cosgrove continue his scoring form, too - the first was a very good finish, and one he wouldn't even have been in the vicinity of the ball to get less than a year ago.

On a slightly more negative note, we looked disjointed and sluggish between half-time and Hickey's red card, a period which almost cost us the game against a limited side. Most obvious disappointment is losing two soft, straightforward goals in quick succession. We conceded too many avoidable and painfully simple goals at Pittodrie last season, so we do need to cut that out of our game.

Pluses and minuses, but a very enjoyable result in the circumstances and one that gives us some momentum going into Rijeka.

When we needed to move up a gear we did .  .  be no dull games this season at pittodrie . Players we brought in all look great signings . and Byrson nae even kicked a ball yet . OJO ❤️.    jambos lose naismith with injury and they will nose dive.  he is everything to them .  .  beautiful winner and well deserved.

Which is odd, as his name is not mentioned at all in the bbc match analysis...........................

One of these players who will not win you the game but he seems to be involved in every pass going through the midfield. The water carrier. Shinnie without the wandering.

Shinnie was an excellent player for Aberdeen - his wandering contributed to many a goal opportunity for the Dons and was much more than a water carrier imo.

Exactly - Shinnie rarely stuck to his position. Ojo does. A DM that wanders about creates a bit of vulnerability through the middle of the park. Not sure we'll see that so much with Ojo. Really like what I have seen of him. Can't see him scoring many goals of s Shinnie type but there are plenty of other guys elsewhere who can deliver.
