NotThePars Posted January 17, 2022 Share Posted January 17, 2022 The Beeb had two major tests of its impartiality in the Scottish Independence Referendum and Corbyn's tenure as leader of the Labour Party and it fucked the both of them. There's plenty of credible arguments to be made about the need for the BBC but the people who could've made those arguments from a position of power have been purposely shoved out of public life and the BBC played no small part in facilitating that. Labour's previous proposals to reform the press and the BBC itself would've benefitted the corporation but it chose to throw itself at the mercy of lunatics like Nadine Dorries so that's a shame for them. Can't say they weren't warned. On Indyref, I really ended up disliking the BBC for their clear bias. A typical day would be, for instance, Yes releasing a statement that independence would help the NHS, and Better Together releasing one saying independence would cause prices to go up in Asda. The BBC would then report the Better Together story, and allow a Yes spokesman time to rebut that argument. So they gave both sides equal time on their news but not equal coverage, because all that people came away with was the prices story and nothing else. You can't carry on with a system where the Government can force the BBC to appoint its supporters to all the top positions by threatening to withhold funding or close it down. To that end it does its job. Take GB news as an example of what News should not be. Clearly politically aligned. No BBC and that is just a glimpse into our futures. The attacks on the BBC are a replication of Brexit. Whip folk up into a rage about something they had no concern with before. Ask yourselves the question, who gains in the BBC is fully or partially privatised? Is this governments issue with the whole BBC or just the news bit? What does need to be addresses though is the impartiality or more accurately the professionalism of some of the BBC journalists. Take a look at a lot of the senior journalists and who their spouses are or were. Why did the BBC not break the 20th May party story despite having multiple sources? I'm not an expert but Mrs SnV studied aspects of it during her degree a long time ago. She's pointed out that when dealing with questions about what he knew about the parties, his eyes were all over the place.
