Love when the Tories forget they're speaking in public. There have been a few who've let slip their desire to scrap or withdraw from human rights legislation, and planning to overrule the courts is a bit of a corker.

That’s the difficult thing with politics, it’s hard to know where you are. The ambiguity surrounding the message just contributes to the confusion. It could be a long couple of months for Boris.

£1.55 BILLION CONTRACTS
Awarded to Corporate Giants for COVID Quarantine Security

The security and outsourcing giant G4S has been awarded a £1.1 billion contract to handle quarantine services in London, the south east and the east of England. The contract will run for six months, from September 2021 to March 2022. The firm has also been awarded an £11 million contract to manage quarantine in Northern Ireland.

The facilities management firm Mitie has also been awarded similar contracts worth some £440 million to handle quarantine in the rest of the country.

The party of fiscal probity, there.

"We've tried nuthin' and we're all out of ideas, man".

Weren't we told that they'd hit 200,000 after England opened up? That never happened.

Eh?

Prof Neil Ferguson said daily cases could hit 200k and would definitely be 100k.

That never happened.

This article is more than 3 months old

Prof Neil Ferguson says 100,000 cases after England unlocks are ‘almost inevitable’ and may double

Cases have never been over 54,764. Yet. That said, the figures for the UK are heading in the wrong direction again. I just don't believe that they will reach the figures he's quoting.

It looks like Javid is using the scare tactics to get folk to have boosters.

So actually (in that article anyway) no, he did not say numbers would hit 200,000 per day.

Are we going to get to would/could pedantry?

The 200k scare figure was mentioned by Ferguson and he also said it was almost inevitable that we'd see 100k. We still only saw half that as a maximum.

The schools are off down south and hopefully we'll see a drop off in case numbers since they are the highest case rate just now.
