You love to see it.

I'm just kicking myself that I backed him last week but not this.

Same here.

And after last week I backed Wiesberger for this week.

Good that Lowry will be known for something other than giving Dustin Johnson his only major.

Koepka making that putt on the last might have done MacIntyre out of a trip to Augusta (not sure how it works for tied 4th)

edit: can't post on this thread without my usual " they should just play it at Carnoustie every year"

Usually top 4 plus ties for all the other Majors get to the Masters

No amount of talking up the course because it's Oirish can change that it's a very average golf links.

Can't agree with this PB. Wouldn't make my top 5 on the rota, but it's a fantastic looking venue and provided a good test, especially today.

Of course, we all know that the old course at Musselburgh remains the pinnacle of Open Championship venues.

That ends the majors of the 2010s.

Multiple winners of the decade:

McIlroy (4)
Koepka (4)
Spieth (3)
Mickelson (2)
Kaymer (2)
Watson (2)

Feels like there's been far less "diddy" major winners of late, certainly nothing like a Todd Hamilton / Ben Curtis type.

He's not a likeable guy but he's plays very well on a certain type of course, just lucky for him I guess that one of the 4 majors every year is played o one of those courses.

I would say Walker, Dufner, and Bradley are probably the 3 that are least likely to win more than 1.

I played it about 15 years ago alongside the neighbouring Portstewart GC and It's a golf course that impressive ( in the same way Trump Aberdeen looks impressive)  but is a million miles away from what I'd call traditional links golf.   The huge dunes, elevated tee shots and overuse of out of bounds.     Through into the mix the poor quality fairway bunkering, and the over use of dramatic run off areas around the greens and you'll see why I don't think its a particularly good course.

Royal Lytham's the best on the rota imo.

I would agree that it has shades of some of the 'newer' links designs like Trump's course. An American's idea of a links, big dramatic dunes and so on. I see your point about the overuse, but I quite liked the green complexes, placed an emphasis on creativity and execution. Lowry of course, was head and shoulders above everyone else in this department.

Nicklaus was once quoted as saying the quality of Open venues fell dramatically the further south you went. Don't quite agree with that, the 3 in the Northwest of England are all pretty good, but Carnoustie and Muirfield, neither the best looking of tracks, remain the ultimate challenges.
