Right.  He’s not playing because all of those players are much better than he is, but Tuchel can’t really come out and say that.  Maybe Gilmour will play more regularly in the future, maybe he won’t. Maybe he’ll go out on loan, maybe he’ll get sold.  There’s absolutely no case for him to be starting league games right now with all those guys ahead of him.   The pressure being put on this kid by Scotland fans is unreal.  It happened to McStay, McLair, McAllister, Fletcher and now Robertson.  The Scottish players with a little bit of flair have unrealistic expectations made of them, whereas relatively limited players like John McGinn get a free pass whatever he does, because there isn’t that same level expectation.

Much of that is an aside to the question of whether he is currently better than the other players in the Scotland midfield.   And anyway, it’s not always the best players who make Steve Clarke’s squad.

There's no pressure at all being put on him by Scotland fans. He's our best young player, we're interested and we talk about him. That's perfectly natural and something fans of all countries do, notunique to Scotland. We have no expectations, Scotland is a country where there's zero pressure put on our players.

We're perfectly used to failure and completely accepting of it, if you want to talk about pressure have a look at what the likes of Neymar got or Foden or Rooney. These fans have expectations, we don't.

Plus two key points, its not like Billy Gilmour is sitting at home reading pieandbovril and freaking out cause Dave64 says he thinks he's a player is it? That's utter pish. And also, if he is to make it as a top level player, pressure comes with the territory, its part of the game.

So this whole is utter pish imo.

Isn't it?  I don't know how he gets out of bed in the morning. Ripped the pish out of the European champions aged 18 but will be freaking right out at a few people on an internet forum discussing his progress.

Sky sports news pundits described him as "running the game", and surprised this is his first EPL start this season. This is tantalising - could he sneak into the squad on the back of a few starts in a row for Chelsea?

Really? I’ve been watching and he’d been pretty quiet - not even had much of the ball.

This. If anything Mount has been terrific, gilmour absolutely anonymous

It’s been a bit strange really. He has played really well when he’s had the ball, some great passes, challenges, tackles etc, don’t think I remember him giving it away which is less than can be said for some of the players.

Yet his teammates don’t seem to be passing the ball to him, even when he gets into space, I can’t work out why really, he’s not done anything wrong.

The game last night showed why he can't replace Jack yet - he was late to sense danger a lot of the time and often came off second best when competing for the ball. There were a couple of instances of him making mistakes when pressed, but it was nice seeing development during the game as after the two mistakes he tried something different in a similar situation and succeeded.

This should be caveated by saying that Chelsea's formation in the first half essentially left him in midfield himself, which made it easier to crowd him out, but it seemed to be the team's overall gameplan to release balls over the top.

It's the first game he's been allowed to play in months

He wouldn't be replacing Jack - he'd be replacing McGregor!

McTominay is nailed on for Jack's role.
