So how would you get McTominay, Gilmour and McGinn into midfield? I don't think you can yet unless Gilmour improves defensively or McTominay plays where he did against Luxembourg or you do something like play a diamond in the midfield which would probably mean going to a back four so it's a big deal to the way we are set up. Until that is resolved we will get the same questions around Hendry, McTominay, McGregor, Gilmour and our shape.

People don't want to hear it, but it's a valid point and in fact a central issue in our team and it revolves partly around Billy Gilmour.

This is an easy one.

The answer is that McTominay doesn't play in midfield as the other three provide a better balance and do an overall better job.

McTominay has more to offer us at right centre back. He has plenty flaws of his own when played in central midfield.

So where does Jack Hendry play?

He has to battle it out with McTominay and Hanley for a place at the back.  Just as McTominay will provide competition for the guys in midfield.

We need more than 11 players capable of stepping in if we are to achieve anything.   We need decent subs for individual games for a start as well as players who can cover injuries and suspensions and runs of poor form.

The competition will be good for them.

How any manager can look at Billy Gilmour and Kenny McLean competing for a spot in central midfield and opt for the latter is beyond me. Gilmour is the star man for the best Scotland team in years and McLean is a seldom used bench warmer for us.

Loan could be terminated after Farke apparently saying Norwich aren't here to develop players for other clubs.

1. Why sign him in the first place?

2. He's already developed to a stage where he's better than the other midfielders in their pish squad.

They could also just try playing him instead of the vastly inferior McLean.

They tried that against Watford and it didn't work. He had the jersey and lost it to McLean that's how it has stayed so far.

Yes, but we're rubbish and likely incapable of correctly assessing a player's ability, will probably be the thinking.

Gilmour played in games against Liverpool, Man City, Leicester and Watford. Since they dropped him they’ve lost to Everton and managed two 0-0 draws - against Burnley and Brighton.

They’re still rooted to the bottom of the table, having not scored in a month. Implying that their current team is “working”, or that the minuscule upturn in results is down to Gilmour alone being dropped when they’ve also changed their formation and swapped out players in other parts of the team, is codswallop.

The Norwich City coach addresses some points around that in his pre match press conference saying:

  • He needs to be looked after as he is a young player and that it's not that easy for Gilmour with the hype in his home country and all the praise.
  • He has to improve on a few topics (I'd imagine defensively)
  • Performances against the likes of the Faroe Islands don't equate to the challenges faced at Premier League level.

Maybe, just maybe the fact they have stopped playing Gilmour has helped them defensively though? I know it's difficult with Scotland tinted spectacles to see that.

Performances against England do though. If he wants to stick to Kenny McLean and two faceless regens in there instead then that's up to him and he can enjoy his relegation.
