Superb Mantis need to go one day !

PS ... Happy Birthday ! 🥃

I think I’ll aim at going back about September 2020. Been to Iceland 3 times but far more accessible for fitba in Føroyar. Shame I just missed the Europa League games. Runavík are out, beaten by Ballymena, KÍ are through,  B36 come in next week at Crusaders and HB are in the Champions League v Helsinki.

The way Mr Klopp keeps getting to finals I’m running seriously low on brownie points but could be a goer ! :)

Great photos.

As When Saturday Come pointed-out, it only took a win against Austria and a goaile wearing a bobble hat to turn the Faroese from unmentionable, whale-slaughtering savages into everyone's favourite eccentric, plucky underdogs. Such was the power of PR and the fickle nature of football fans in those days.

Nowadays, some amusingly coiffeured facial hair, an innovative kit, a well-choreographed goal celebration and a win over Germany might see Saudi Arabia adopted as every neutral's second-favourite team, such is the power of PR and the fickle nature of football fans.

Plus it’s my birthday and I’m half pished.

Snap! As in it was my birthday yesterday, not that I'm pished, it's not even lunchtime. :angel

Not as exotic as the Faroes, but planning a trip to a game here soon, on the very north tip of Lewis.

Digital overdose indeed 😂

I know Ness well as Mrs Mantis is from Lewis. Been a few times including Lewis & Harris B Select v Steve Paterson’s ICT in 1997.

The Niseachs were dominant in the 90s but have faded away. Many famous Nessmen have worn the green and black including Roddy ‘Barvas’ Macrae, a one-eyed goalscoring winger (lost it in a car crash) who was last seen working as a Free Church minister in Edinburgh.

You can easily spend a day up there visiting the Butt of Lewis, and the bird hide at Loch Stiapabhat if that’s your thing, and the walk over the bridge to Dún Eisdean, before a game at Fivepenny in the evening.

Right, back to Føroyar. Up north, to Klaksvík on the island of Borðoy which you reach by the 6.3 km Norðoyatunnilin which goes 150m below the sea bed at its lowest point. It costs a whopping 100DKK (about £12 ) for a return crossing but locals buy a season ticket and get it for 25DKK. You are charged by number plate recognition and pay at a fuel station. Klaksvík is the largest town after Tórshavn, 5000 people, and is home to the fabby brewery  Föroya Bjór.

Kí have won 17 championships, second only to HB of Tórshavn with 23. Here's a few shots of Klaksvík including the ground from up the hill.

I must admit that of the bits of knowledge you can sometimes pick up on P&B, the tunnel system of the Faroe Islands was not one I'd have guessed. Reading this post I was surprised at how somewhere as small and isolated as the Faroes could afford such a project, did some googling and discover that the island group has numerous road tunnels joining them up dating back to the early 60s with even more planned.  Superb stuff.  I now know what my specialist subject on Mastermind will be. 👍
