MrTumble
I can’t see a negative. Community working hard to create a community hub...is that not what lottery money should be spent on? The place is looking great and all the youth teams and the local amateur team will benefit. Football in Kilwinning has a great future ahead of it, let’s not get upset by the jealous and bitter few.

In recent years they'd done all they realistically could with the place and while the improvements were noticeable they obviously decided enough was enough and looked elsewhere. There's also the danger of lack of security of tenure at some council-owned facilities which would make a club think twice about investing heavily in them - look at Inverness City who sunk close on six figures into their park on the understanding their lease would be extended only to be bumped out on their arses at the end of it. Result: no more Inverness City. No lack of security at Abbey the ground was bought from Palmer by the council for the club. Kilwinning had a fantastic team in late '90s plenty cash spent on it but none on the ground. Abbey was seriously suffering from facilities being virtually untouched until recently by the guy who posts on here can't remember his name but was doing a grand job. The sports complex is lottery funded and some people quite rightly are not happy with Buffs moving there however the complex has been suffering financial difficulties and if Buffs moving can make it more sustainable then it's a winner for both. Many junior clubs have moved ground in recent years and it's sad to see history end but any Buffs fan just wants to see their club survive first of all then prosper. My own club had their ground ruined by the army during the war had Glengarnock Vale returned following hostilities Ladeside would not have been able to take up residence. You have to do what you can to survive. Edited July 1, 2019 by clash city rocker
wintonfan
lets be blunt here, mid 90's allan mccluckie snr could have bought abbey park from palmer, rebuilt it and given the buffs a top class home with the change in his back pocket. for whatever reasons only known to him he didnt. the buffs were left up poo creek in a barbed wire canoe. what they have done by leaving abbey park is given themselves stability, the council could decide to sell abbey park with 30 days notice. they now have a solid base to build a top ground and are doing so, decent facilities for players, committees and fans and the chance to generate revenue. good luck to them

The council should not be able to sell the land for housing though , they denied Palmer that right and practically forced him into selling to them.
