Eednud
The FFA Cup draw was made tonight although the A-League season doesn’t start until 11 October. New club , the boringly named Western United, almost as boring as the FFA Cup holders new choice of coach, is not included in the draw. Ties will be held between 23 July and 7 August. There are 3 all A-League clashes and holders Adelaide United have a tricky tie away to former NSL champions Melbourne Knights, Mark Viduka’s former club. NPL champions Campbelltown City from Adelaide face Melbourne City and hope they resist any pressure to move game to a larger ground. All NPL clubs are level 2, except Bulleen Lions, Moreland Zebras and St George from level 3 and Coomera Colts level 4 https://www.theffacup.com.au/news/confirmed-ffa-cup-2019-round-32-draw-revealed Sydney FC v Brisbane Roar Perth Glory v Western Sydney Wanderers Melbourne Victory v Newcastle Jets Tigers FC v Hume City South Hobart v Marconi Stallions Adelaide Olympic v Floreat Athena Magpies Crusaders v Coomera Colts Olympic FC v Bayswater City St George v Sydney United 58 Darwin Olympic v Edgeworth Eagles FC Bulleen Lions v Moreland Zebras Mount Druitt Town Rangers v Manly United Maitland FC v Central Coast Mariners Melbourne Knights v Adelaide United Campbelltown City v Melbourne City Brisbane Strikers v Wellington Phoenix Edited June 26, 2019 by Eednud

Torpar
Noticed that the Bankwest Stadium is now complete while watching Parramatta highlights at the weekend, absolutely beautiful stadium imo. Shame Western Sydney Wanderers is an awful name for a team

Eednud
The Magpies Crusaders drawn at home in an all Queensland tie against the Coomera Colts are officially the Mackay & Whitsundays Magpies Crusaders United. Their web site lists their philosophy as “Magpies Crusaders United is a club built with the foundations set of scoring more goals than the opponent through using the ball effectively and constructively.” Although it must have worked in the FFA Cup preliminary rounds it doesn’t seem to be working in the league. They are currently 12th out of 15 in NPL Queensland with 14 points and a goal difference of -40.

Eednud
Looks like FFA will not manage the A-League, W-League and National Youth League from 2020/21 season. https://www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/ffa-to-relinquish-control-of-a-league-after-independence-deal-reached-20190701-p522vy.html https://www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/war-is-over-now-the-hard-work-begins-to-revive-australian-football-20190701-p5233f.html

Eednud
Bad news for Adelaide as Craig Goodwin off to Saudi Arabian club, Al-Wehda. Incoming is Dutch born Curacao international Michael Maria. Increasing the Dutch connection former Melbourne Heart player Gerald Sibon is hired as Performance Coach.
Eednud
FFA Cup proper gets under way tonight with 6 all-NPL ties and 3 Olympics and all Greek origin. The main televised game is from Brisbane, Olympic FC v Bayswater City (WA). The others are a “Greek” derby, Adelaide Olympic v Floreat Athena (WA); Darwin Olympic v Edgeworth FC (NNSW); in an all Melbourne tie Bulleen Lions v Moreland Zebras, both from level 3; an all Queensland tie involving the team with the longest name in the Cup, Mackay & Whitsundays Magpies Crusaders United v Coomera Colts from level 4 and finally an all NSW tie, Mount Druitt Rangers v Manly United. Mount Druitt play in yellow and green. Another 5 ties next Wednesday with Melbourne City and the Mariners involved with 5 ties and the rest of the A-League clubs in the week after. The FFA has removed the ban on historic (ie ethnic) names so next season it might be Moreland Juventus if they qualify. Interesting that Olympic and Athena weren’t deemed ethnic.

Any suggestions from one of the aficinados?Adelaide Olympic are 3rd in the NPL SA Premier League 7 points behind top of the table Campbelltown City with 4 games to go before the Finals series. Olympic play in all blue but City play in the same colour as the Dons. Olympic was started by Greek migrants, city by Italians. Olympic have more chance of going through to the next round as they have the easier tie on paper. CC are at home to Melbourne City next week. So you can always go for Olympic and if they lose switch to CC next week. Olympic not playing at their own ground tonight but CC will be next week. There is no loch at Campbelltown though.

I just like the names - I'll probably keep an eye on both. Slightly intrigued that a "town" is a City...
