AyrTroopMajor
Michel Platini has been reportedly detained on suspicion of corruption as part of an investigation into the ridiculous awarding of the 2022 World Cup to Qatar. Corruption within football's governing bodies? Naaawww surely no...

Melanius Mullarkey
To the surprise of no one. Shame really as the '84 France team is probably my favourite international team of all time.

No matter what happens here I can't see them taking it off Qatar at this stage.

7-2
No chance it's going anywhere else. It would have gone long before now if it was.
Scosha
Surely there's an option to pull it from Qatar once he gets charged with it? They could easily host it at late notice in Europe. England is well equipped with the infrastructure and stadiums if need be. Same with Germany.

England (or even a UK & Ireland job) would be able to host it no problem. f**k Qatar, they 'won' the right to host the tournament through bribery and corruption, so tough tits if they lose it for the same reason.
LincolnHearts
I wonder if the 4 'losing' federations will be able to sue FIFA to recover the costs of their doomed to failure bids for 2022? Although it would have been fairly shite for a good chunk of the worldwide tv audience, I feel sorry for Australia in particular. Reckon they would have put on a decent tournament.
XIII
f**k FIFA and Qatar, Strip it from the bribing c***s and give it to Australia, just replace Qatar in Australias place In qualifying and job done
welshbairn
There is zero chance of them taking it off Qatar. Money counts and they've spent billions on it already. The African and Asian members would never allow it and if any of them had second thoughts they'd get funding for nice new facilities and 5 star junkets in the post.
Enigma
Qatar are also already building a team of Brazilians for the tournament.
nsr
It will transpire that Platini was in fact arrested for smuggling consignments of catarrh pastilles up his arse. Nothing to do with the WC hosts for 2022.

It will never happen but pretty much all of the big European countries have the infrastructure in place to host it, England (or UK combined), Germany, France, Spain, Italy all have enough stadiums to take over.
edthebaw
Platini legend of a footballer, but a real tosser of a man, would do anything for money , bribes and back handers probably never get to know how much he really took !! Jail him or kicked out Fitbaw forever !!

Hauzen
Superintendent Hastings will get to the bottom of this, he's got nothing to do now for the next couple of years so will easily have Platini bang to rights before he goes chasing the next bent copper.

highlandcowden
kind of sad that our memories of michel platini will most likely be of a corrupt, greedy administrator that may or may not get the jail, not one of the greatest footballers from the 70s and 80s
