Still didn’t see anything special in Japan earlier they were there for the taking.

I still think england will be too big and strong for them

Strange that a big country like Argentina are not very good at women’s football.

Wonder why they aren’t very good
Countries with less respect for women often have a big gap between the ranking of their men's & women's teams. USA is the top dog among the women because of Title IX, requiring colleges to offer equal scholarships. Scandinavian countries have performed above their size. On the other side, Latin & religious countries sometimes have weaker women's teams.

Cheers I did think it would be something along those lines and Latin women are probably traditional in their roles and would not give the above much thought

I'd expect England to rest a lot of players. Not sure Japan can, just in case.

Doubt that's the reason. Basically Japan and USA are advanced countries, ploughing huge investment into the men's game, but have caught the women's game at a much earlier stage. Money and participation far more significant in women's game.

Sweden and Italy were leaders in women's game, but are now being overtaken

Did Japan beat them? England are only 1 up??

Japan and England are far superior and Argentina still played everyone behind the ball even with 4 minutes injury time, cant you work out why.

They didn't want to lose too many goals and fancy their chances against Scotland.

Im not too confident against Argentina as they are very controlled behind the ball and not being dragged out by the opponents.

The England goal was a counterattack, the only time or one of that Argentina threw people forward and they lost a  goal because of it

Italy have never done anything in women's football, this is as good as it's been for them. Same for Spain. Portugal are not at all good. Brazil have been by far the best of the Latin countries, but they've got a huge pool to draw from and even then they're headed for third in their group, lost to us in a friendly recently and haven't achieved more than Norway or Sweden. Most of the other South American countries are terrible, and Mexico are honking too, far inferior to Canada.

Within Europe you can look to the Balkans, where no country has ever done anything in women's football. Croatia are 56th, behind Jordan and Belarus. Turkey are 61 and Greece are 67. These are reasonably developed countries with huge football infrastructures and player bases. They're so better than Scotland's men. The only reason their women's teams are nowhere is because they're given a much, much smaller share of the resources than elsewhere.

If I can be arsed I'm going to see if this correlates with the proportion of women in their parliaments.

But you were suggesting that there was a correlation between a country's 'lack of respect for women' and them not performing as well as their men's team. In Italy's case, that's bollocks. Latin, religious and absolutely a leader in women's football for 30 years.
