Darvel remind me of the buffs when we had the mc cluckie era almost 30 years ago now and as a buffs supporter it still gives us good memories and like you say sugar daddies come and go. But 30 years ago talbot were good and other teams could challenge them we had healthy crowds following the buffs which helped along with Fullerton fabs help . But now talbot are a different animal with their regular participation in the big Scottish and going against the odds and beating teams way above them in terms of league position they are getting bigger on and off the park no one will get near them anytime soon so with a sugar daddy you may get the odd result over them but long term they have laid the foundations for years to come . So when the pyramid system comes in darvel won't be competing with talbot because they will be one of two leagues above nearly every junior team . Unfortunately the money raised by the healthy crowds ended up in players wallets instead of the infrastructure of Abbey Park. I believe if somebody had any insight then the Buffs would still be playing at their spiritual home. Darvel seem to have the right idea as they have committed heavily into the upgrade of Recreation Park. If anything it may be down to what the manager can do different with these players , the mentality of the manager rather than the players. Beating the Talbot over 90 in a league game won't win the league , the same level of performance will be needed over the other 29 games because the Talbot treat every match the same Rossvale or Pollok makes no difference , Talbot don't showboat they always show respect whoever the opponent is. The mentality at the club is incredible.. Seen many comments about them being a long ball outfit , not as good as results suggest. BS Talbot squeeze the guts out of you , make you play in your own half , test your mental strength , it's doesn't matter if it's the 9th or 90th minute they believe the goal will come , the win will come. We huffed and puffed but happy with 3 points, agree on the penalty shouts but the lino had some dreadful offside decisions against us.
