Juniors v womens football

Can’t compare women’s football with juniors.

The reason women’s football is developing rapidly is because investment is starting to trickle into it, and it allows more professionalism.

The only reason women’s football was getting less coverage or attention is literally because of structural sexism - women’s football was banned here *because it was too popular*, and the men saw it as a threat.

Thankfully now people are realising the immense growth potential of this and other women’s sports.

If anything, Junior clubs with ambition could be exploring opportunities to set up a women’s team, and establish themselves as a top-flight club in the women’s game sooner than they can do so in the men’s. The former being useful in helping towards the latter, through greater brand recognition.

Agreed, I'd love to see some large junior clubs setting up a women's team, although not as a separate "grade" but in existing leagues. That could actually be really good for the game at a grassroots level.

Theres a Pollok FC Ladies that use the same badge as the mens team. No clue how closely both clubs are connected/related however.

We played Dalbeattie a few years back in pre-season ...it was 3 dugs and a man.....

In a friendly I assume?

I was at Dalbeattie v Gretna in December 2017 - a crowd very similar to what you’d see at a run-of-the-mill West match in late winter.

Do any of the '3 men and a dog' brigade actually have any statistical evidence they can provide as to the average numbers attending LL games vs the juniors? Or are these opinions ill informed hear say and popular misinformation, much akin to the £13 pound entry fee and a Tuesday trip to Elgin?

Sadly, the junior game is beginning to see the fruits of the chosen leaders Labour..... No pyramid entry, falling playing standards, players and teams moving to other 'senior' leagues, falling income from sponsorship and an overall poorer product than was present 5 years ago. The very fact that certain people still believe that other leagues dont have big crowds because a friendly was poorly attended and the better players don't play in it is astounding.

As always, by about the bottom of page 2 the thread gets hijacked by Darvel/LL/EOSL nuts and goes off subject. Womens football is not going to go away and perhaps the best thing is for junior clubs to engage with it and see it as a way of expanding their income and making more use of their facilities. After all many clubs have the advantage of owning their grounds and can either make a charge for use of it, or fully embrace the ladies section and use it as an opportunity to get more income and help in running and maintaining the facility.  It is a different game and in my experience causes a lot less wear and tear on the surface even in the winter months.  It may be that the existing generation of club officials and league administrators will have to give way  before it is fully accepted though.

This is the type of mindset that needs to change at a lot of "traditional" Scottish Clubs, both Junior and Senior. As others have touched on already.

Don't look at it as Juniors v Womens football.  Embrace the change in society, engage  more with your communities in providing that pathway for all young kids

boys and girls all the way to an Adult Mens and  Womens team. Worth it just to get all those local people participating in the sport, but has the added benefit of you

encouraging a new generation and demographic of fans for the club.

They've gone soft, they certainly played over the winter when Cumbernauld Ladies used our ground.

Been to a number of womens league games over the last few games. Glasgow City, Celtic, Hibs and there was pretty much always a bigger crowd than that of the local junior teams to me.

It's a totally different atmosphere, and a younger crowd.

The thing about junior games (in the east anyway) is that the age demographic is very worrying. Where are the next generation of supporters going to come from? Why would a kid of 10 decide to want to go to a Junior game? What's the motivation?

Are any of them women? Or thinking of becoming one?
