UEFA Europa League 2019/2020

Recommended Posts

Big story of the evening was actually Hajduk Split bottling a two goal lead from the first leg by losing 3-1 at home to a bunch of Maltese wine merchants. Croatian football - the true laughing stock of Europe right now.
Similar fails for Poland (Cracovia being turfed out by Dunajská Streda of Slovakia; Legia barely slithering past a team Gibraltar) and of course Scotland for Kilmarnock being knocked out by that vowel-hating rabble.

The worst thing about Hajduk was that they were up 3-0 on agg, at home, with around half an hour to play. Then they managed to concede 3 goals in that time and went out, Robbie Neilson levels of embarrassing.

Polish teams shouldn't be shite in Europe though, given the relatively high amount of money floating around in that league for the region, and certainly compared to relative minnows like Slovakia. And Dunajská Streda are hardly big-hitters in their domestic game either. There is absolutely no excuse for them losing that match.

Why has the Roma game been postponed today?

AC Milan were 5th in Serie A last year, Roma 6th. When Milan were removed from UEFA competition due to FFP violations Roma took over their 5th place position in European terms and Torino moved up to take Roma's.

Connahs Quay with a very respectable 1-0 loss to Partizan Belgrade.

Andorran club FC Santa Coloma held Kazakh club FC Astana to a 0-0 draw in a suprise result. Others include Dutch club Utrecht drawing at home 1-1 against Zrinjski Mostar of Bosnia, Pyunik of Armenia beating Czech club FK Jablonec 2-1 & Shamrock Rovers beating Cypriot club Apollon Limassol 2-1. If I've missed any feel free to mention them.

Some game between KAA Gent & Vitorul Constanta which ended 6-3 to the Belgians.

Valur drawing 1-1 with Ludogorets and Hacken drawing 0-0 away to AZ are very decent results IMO.

Jeunesse Esch and KI Klaksvík both held Vitoria and Luzern to the last minute. Riga only lost 3-2 to Piast which is decent too IMO.

Luzern winning a game in Europe is a huge surprise. Their European escapades are the Swiss version of "Hibsing it". Should have hammered The Faroese last night, in fairness to them, but it really wouldn't be a surprise to anyone in Switzerland if they conspired to go out over there.

Absolute nonsense. Luzern are well known as a top notch European team and that it takes something very special to knock them out...

The penalty shoot out featured during last nights half time analysis. The fuckers kept pronouncing your name wrong though.

First shock of the evening goes to Slovan Bratislava, who have eliminated PAOK on away goals: given the Greek side's superb home record in Europe getting the narrow defeat required to go through this evening looked very unlikely. Second year in a row in which a team from Slovakia has made it to the group stages.
