Does anybody here think that reserve teams shouldn't be allowed in the pyramid (as in England)?

I'm talking about Stranraer and Caledonian Braves Reserves in the SoS and also Stirling University Reserves in the EoS.

That would obviously mean SoS being down 2 clubs, but all the other senior teams manage to find meaningful games for their reserves without needing teams in senior competition.

Stranraer play 2 or 3 experienced players and then its teenagers.

The other lot I don't know a lot about .Think they are nomads who have to get games for their pupils/ payees ,  and  SoS   suits as you aren't getting thumped .

England does have reserve teams within their pyramid. You'll usually find them kicking in from Tier 11 (Step 6).

In Scotland they're effectively banned from the Top 5 Tiers. The SPFL don't allow for two teams in their league, which is why those interested in Colts have been knocked back as it requires a rule change. The Lowland League has the same rule of not allowing two teams in the leagues represented on the Professional Game Board (SPFL, HL, and LL). The HL doesn't have the same rule which is how they could flirt with the idea of ICT Colts.

After that it comes down to a membership vote. If the SoSFL, EoSFL, and now in future WoSFL & NCL want to take them in its up to them. They just can't progress beyond that league structure.

Strangely the petition mentions Junior football and no reference to the new West of Scotland , the South or the East ! A valid concern but surely all levels should be associated with this issue ?

I have passed on your concerns to the Petitioner and have confidence that your valid complaint will shortly be dealt with.

Now that all teams most likely have their squad assembled for next season...

who would you say is going to be favourites/challenging? Who is going to be a surprise package? And who is most likely to struggle?

As expected Threave look very strong and will probably be favourites for the league. Saints also look strong given their last two results. Stranraer look to be struggling more than previous seasons and the same can be said for Mids and Abbey Vale. Wigtown appear to be a little surprise package if recent form is anything to go by which is good to see. It’s shaping up to be an exciting season.

Is there hope yet of financial help from the UK Government via the SP?

From the BBC web site:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/54998979

Interesting to read that the UK Government has allocated  "a rescue package of £300m of emergency funding for sports impacted by the absence of spectators because of coronavirus."

A breakdown of funding distribution (preliminary figures):

Note: The final amount received by each sport/organisation may differ from the amounts set out when final decisions are made by an independent decision-making board, and supported by Sport England.

Football: £28m - National League (steps 1-2): £11m; National League (steps 3-6): £14m; Women's Football (Women's Super League and FA Women's Championship): £3m

Scottish government seeks clarity on UK emergency sports funding

The Scottish government is seeking "urgent clarification" from its UK counterpart about the amount of funding available for sports.

The UK government is to provide £300m of loans and grants for sports in England impacted by the absence of fans because of Covid-19.

That money will mean an increase in cash for the devolved governments, who decide how to spend it.

The Scottish government welcomed the announcement, but want more detail.

"This has been an enormously challenging time for the sport sector and we appreciate the sacrifices made by supporters, clubs and authorities over the past months to help us tackle the virus," a spokesperson said.

"We welcome the announcement of a UK government support scheme for sports impacted by the loss of spectators during the pandemic, and will seek urgent clarification on the Barnett consequential funding as a result in order to support the sector in Scotland."

The funding in England extends to rugby union and rugby league, as well as horse racing, women's football, motorsport, tennis, netball, basketball, ice hockey, badminton and greyhound racing.

Men's football above non-league level is not on the list, but it would be for the Scottish government to decide how to allocate the extra cash in Scotland.

The government added it "will continue to work with the [sport] sector to ensure their long-term sustainability".

They said: "Sport brings enjoyment to the many people who watch and play, and we don't want supporters to be delayed in returning to stadiums for any longer than is absolutely necessary."

Following on from the announcement of funding support for semi-pro clubs in England today it has been announced that £750,000 of National Lottery funds is going to the 44 clubs in the Welsh Cymru League.

“The financial package – established by the FAW and The National Lottery and facilitated by the UK Government – will see clubs in the JD Cymru Premier, JD Cymru North and the JD Cymru South receive funding while matches continue to be played behind closed doors, owing to the current COVID-19 restrictions. “

“Nigel Railton, Chief Executive of National Lottery operator Camelot, said, “The National Lottery and its players have been making a massive difference to communities across the UK for the past 26 years, so we’re thrilled to be able to partner with the Football Association of Wales to provide vital funding for these incredibly important clubs in the Cymru Leagues. As a huge football fan myself, I know what this will mean to fans of these community clubs, and I’m sure they’ll be pleased to hear that their clubs are getting the support they need.”

The partnership follows a similar National Lottery initiative between the FA and National League in England, which was facilitated by the UK government. Work continues on partnerships with the Scottish and Northern Ireland FAs.

Wonder if we're heading towards another shutdown. Saints cancelled training tonight as they don't currently feel it's safe or right, which is fully understandable.

Newton Stewart now calling for the season to be stopped.

The South of Scotland league has played it right so far and with the increase in cases in the area the obvious correct thing to do now is to pause the league.

There is a big difference between Premier,1-2 and 3 , where the players are being regularly tested , and the lower tiers where testing is not feasible.

People in the south clubs know their area and what is possible and if they don't get SFA/Gov backing , should follow their instinct and take their own action. Good Luck

Only the Premiership + Hearts + clubs who play them in the cups are being tested.

At least the SOS has a decent amount of slack in the fixture schedule to take a month off and still finish in time for the LL play-off.

All games off tomorrow due to the weather, which avoids the problem until the EGM. Not accusing any clubs of trying to pull a fast one BTW, was obvious days ago there was no way pitches would be playable.

EGM on Thursday it seems.

Assuming the EGM wont be held face to face surely it could have been held before this Sat.

Luckily the weather has saved the spineless SOS executive from making a big mistake.

Has common sense caught the virus?
