Robbie Horn the man Ive been told with Scott Booth as his assistant

Both successful at current club

Would not let Booth anywhere near your club after what he did at Stenhousmuir.

While sacking a failing manager too late is better than not sacking him at all, there really seems to be no strategic thinking at Brechin.

Dods gets a whole season in the Championship while taking only four points, then while sitting mid-table the following season gets bagged for two successive defeats having just gone six unbeaten before that. Clearly being punished for the previous season rather than his results in 18/19, so that being the case why give him the summer rather than letting a new manager build a squad and work with them to prepare for the season?

Smith takes over from Dods, makes things worse and gets relegated, but keeps his job and gets to build a team for the following season. He then gets sacked three league games into that season. Why give him the summer rather than a letting a new manager build the squad and work with them to prepare for the new season?

Wilson takes over from Smith, there's no great improvement and he finishes the season adrift in bottom place having taken just 14 points from the 22 games he was in charge for, but keeps his job and gets to a build a team for the following season. He then gets sacked two league games into that season. Why give him etc etc?

Starting to wonder if citydiehard might have been onto something all along

[edit] quick reckoning up suggests that under Wilson we have:

P29

W3

D6

L20

F34

A80

Might not be 100pc precise but it’s not far off. Whatever - I’d be interested to know if there have been many worse managerial records in British senior football after a similar number of games?? That really is on the verge of ‘I could do better myself’

It shouldn't escape anyone's attention that Jonathan Page started 27 of these games.

Wilson seemed a nice enough guy and things were maybe getting a little better before lockdown, but there's no way he could survive a near-apocalyptic start to the season. His sacking this morning no surprise.

Scott Booth would be a deranged shout frankly. Hope Brechin's thinking is a little different.

Correct he is fucking hopeless, but lets not forget that MW kept him and made him captain this year

I am feeling your pain this season. Have you thought of changing your user name to Best Team in Glebe Park.

it stems back to Dods - he was sacked far too late and like you say shouldn't have been given the summer following the 4 point season.  Smith inherited Dods' squad and was given a chance to build his own team the following season - that didn't work out so he was punted and the same thing has happened with Wilson.

Had we got rid of Dods at the right time, I doubt Smith or Wilson would have been given the summer to rebuild.

Pretty sure they beat us 4-2 at Forthbank under Wilson. We were horrid that day but Brechin looked decent. Felt like they could kick on and that result would have given them some confidence but didn’t materialise.

It's really hard to see what Brechin City have been trying to achieve over the last few years. Dunning1874 above has posted a handy timeline from 2017 onwards and it makes for confusing reading - why was Dods not punted midway through the Championship campaign? Why was he allowed to start the new 2018/19 season when almost every supporter had lost faith in him? Why was he eventually sacked when he looked as though he was turning things around? Why was Barry Smith kept on after the relegation to League 2? Why was he binned after just five games? Why has the same thing happened to Mark Wilson when he's spent the last five months putting his team together?

The thinking is so fuzzy!
