The Brechin City Thread

This result also means for the first time since 1925-1926 the national leagues will have five teams from the kingdom. 25-26 was the last season for Lochgelly United at SFL level where curiously they finished one place above Brechin City.

A sad day for Brechin City & football in Angus. A massive job lies ahead of whoever is to take the club forward with what should be an almost entirely new squad.

Astonishing that this ground hosted Championship football just 4 years ago. The flaws of Brechin in the last two years were painfully on display. No shortage of effort but very little creativity & virtually no goal threat. Poorly managed on & off the park.

Well done to Kelty Hearts who fully deserved promotion over the two legs.

I hope Brechin City find a quick way back and with the right manager and a new squad they’ll be challenging. The present team would finish 4th-6th in the HFL. An opportunity to take a flamethrower to the present mess and start again from scratch.

Just about every part-time club amongst the 42 is basically a bad season or two from falling out of the league completely now. Well, if this Colts nonsense doesn't ruin the integrity of the whole thing.

A sad day. Usual idiots will talk about getting did of the bottom feeders, ignoring the ambition they showed getting to the Championship in 2017.  Fear for them.

They finished 4th and got promoted via the play-offs, not sure that's really 'ambition'. That's where Brechin were for years, they just got the rub of the green in the play-offs that year. And then were destroyed in the Championship obviously.

Not that ambition is something to be applauded - if by 'ambition' people mean spending money they can't really afford. Never really sure why people think that is a good thing.

Feel for Brechin fans, but no doubt it is deserved, this season but also last. Given the quality coming up through the leagues I'd like to see promotion/relegation extended to automatic relegation for 10th and play-off for 9th like in the other leagues. No chance of any clubs in bottom leagues voting for that though.

You mean the season where they slithered in on a negative goal difference and about 17 defeats, then chose to just bank the money and stink out the second tier?

That complete abdication of any sort of competitive interest was the death knell for them.

With Shire, Berwick and now Brechin dropping out the league it’s time to open up the bottom to allow free movement between HL/LL and SPFL the current 0.5 relegation just makes it harder for teams to bounce back. Relegate 2 and automatic promotion for HL and LL Champions is required or teams dropping out could find themselves out the SPFL for a long time.

Why are Hearts fans wanking furiously over this result

Surprised they had the energy after liking chugging themselves into oblivion when Kelty dispatched Brora.

I don't recall any of the three non-league outfits clamouring for that change while they were in the tent pissing out of it, so why should it be changed on their account now?

Clubs might decide that it's in their rational, long-term interest to open things up but that's an entirely different reason to do so than trying to help clubs who tried to keep it bolted shut altogether.

Brechin City season ticket holders were on the pitch hugging Montrose players after we won the league so for that reason alone I'm absolutely delighted to see them going down.

Wait....what!?
