The Brechin City Thread

Fucking Tayport are happy to go into the Highland side of the pyramid and potential matches v Orkney, Scourie and Wick but Brechin are shiting themselves. Shitebags. If ye don't want to play in the Highland League don't get relegated and, if that fails, get promoted.

ETA: Shitebags refers to the club and naw Brechin fans. This a brass neck for them.

The pyramid system was brought in prematurely, without being properly thought out. It's unfair that Brechin are being forced to play in the Highland League. I have no problem with them attempting to switch to the Lowland League.

The ball started rolling in 2011 it wasn't premature, it was poorly planned. The SFA wanting to do the bare minimum in creating Highland / Lowland feeders. Then leave the existing non-league (SJFA, Highland League, EoSFL, and SoSFL) in place to sort themselves out through a footballing Darwinism.

It's only when you see them attempting to change the national league setup on demand by flashing a bit of cash that one can fully appreciate the sheer size and stature of Brechin City Football Club.

At the point at which the pyramid was brought in, after intense media pressure, it was clear that there were not sufficient sides available in the Lowland area of a suitable standard to form a division below SPFL2. The SFA should have waited until more clubs with proper grounds, and some supporters, could be brought on board.

Well you did have a FIFA vice-president at one point.

And how could they have been "brought on board", given the SJFA's ill-disguised opposition?

Which would’ve made it even more stupid to have a team from as far north as Brechin in a “lowland league”

I support Brechin on this. It's legitimate for them to request being placed in a more geographically convenient league in a pyramid system. It is not legitimate to parachute B teams from two perversely oversized clubs in at the top of the feeder system even if they can't be promoted.

The outcome of the LL votes say a lot more about the committees of those clubs than anything else.

Well done Brechin for trying to do what's best for them as a club.

Legitimate for them to request, maybe. Although the time for that was when the line was drawn back when the playoff started. Essentially offering clubs a bribe and then getting your pals to threaten clubs with expulsion* from a relatively lucrative competition is not.

*with the caveat that this might be Daily Mail bollocks

You daft c***s are going to get some reception when you show up for games in the Highland League, a league you’re now going to be stuck in forever.
Uses to be a nice club, Brechin. This is a shambles.

Think you need to bare in mind that this is the actions of one or two individuals on the board and doesn’t represent any of the supporters, or anyone else at the club for that matter.

Its been over 5 years since Montrose were in the play off final, you think Brechin would have raised this issue long before it impacting them if they really cared about Scottish football. The HL/LL line has been known about since before Montrose survived so Brechin have no legitimate grounds for requesting anything other than a place in the HL.

Their signing policy has been rank rotten, moving to their rightful place of the HL offered them a fresh outlook on who to sign, that they've pissed it away in less than a week helps to explain why they will be a HL team for the foreseeable future.

Where is the expulsion threat piece? I only read about trying to be placed in the LL.

It certainly shows up the lowland league teams for the charlatans they are. Knocking back a legitimate team 17-0 against some makey up old firm pish that they vote for. Brechin should have actually offered a Mackie Motors discount voucher and a bag of wotsits to show up the hypocrisy.

Taken from another forum, this is the story in the Daily Mail. Not just the SPFL, seems like Ian Maxwell was involved as well.

One would imagine that it would take more than two individuals to give approval for a £17,000 per season bribe.
