It could happen to anyone and even if you’re sitting (relatively) pretty just now, even a Raith or Airdrie is only two poor appointments away from a playoff showdown date 😝

One could argue that similar has happened at a higher level with Raith.  They've historically been a top to second tier full-time side and some dodgy managerial appointments saw them in a relegation playoff against a certain Angus club, who of course sent them into their 'HL of the SPFL' so to speak (ie. somewhere they feel they don't belong and should not be)

There's only so long they can stay down there without becoming an established / permanent part-time team, and getting back up with sides like Falkirk coming down is no easy feat (even with automatic promotion and a playoff to fall back on). Even now you can see them neck and neck with historically diddy neighbours East Fife.

Same with Dundee Utd and the Championship I suppose as this season would be make or break for them after a few seasons down there now. Anyway, you get my point (hopefully).

Bit of a contradiction here tbf.

Not really, just highlights the reality of our situation and indeed quite a few lower league clubs who  try to keep their heads above water each year , hoping for a wee  financial boost every now and again.

As was said , a couple of shite managerial appointments can really f**k things up  when the team go on a downward spiral .  Especially a club like ours who stay loyal to the said management teams.

Just what we need at the moment  a 37 year old defender who can't get a game for a struggling Peterheid team.
Sorry but I would hope and expect the fund to be better utilised than that.

Was just what a few people told me wasnt impressed with him the first time he played for us

How does/will the fighting fund work? Is the cash added straight to the manager's budget to spend as he pleases, or does it need some sort of board/committee sign-off?

I’m not sure how it will work exactly but the money is ring fenced for the playing budget.

Regarding Mick Dunlop I get he is not that glamorous a signing but we are a team that has leaked a lot of goals and maybe an experienced defender is exactly one of the things that we need.  Teams are not just going to let go guys who are playing regularly either.  Our expectations of what players are going to be brought in need to be realistic.

We need players who are up to the pace and ready to go , not ones who have been sitting on the bench or in the stands ,  as the manager has hinted a few times.

When you gamble on half fit players it usually ends in disaster. Especially when the players are 37 and at the end of the road.

I find it astonishing Brechin City supporters would be dismissive towards bringing in Mick Dunlop. He's a specialist at this level, with three league winners' medals and two play-off victories, and although he's approaching the end of his career he would be a superb six-month signing. I'd take him back at Ochilview without thinking.

Spoiler

We have been sticking with a different CB pairing for a while but would have no worries about Mick Dunlop returning to the team if needed. Although 37 seems to have looked after himself pretty well & his experience covers that loss of a bit of pace. Am quite happy for Mick to provide cover until the end of the season for us & with McCracken away think he is being asked to do a bit of coaching.

It's the lack of game time and ultimately match fitness that worries me.  We tried the same with Scott Robertson and Tam Scobie last season and they let us down badly.

Considering he played his last game for Stenny in 1985 then I'm inclined to agree with the OH.

Michael 'Mick' Dunlop (born 12 January 1957) was a Scottish footballer who played for Clyde, Dumbarton, Queen of the South and Stenhousemuir.[2]
