Sort of, but not really Kennedy only played 44 games and then retired Levein essentially had 3 seasons as a superb youngster, battled injury between the ages of 22 and 25 and then had another 6 seasons at Hearts in an era when Rangers were hoovering up domestic honours Had he not been temporarily derailed there’s little doubt he was destined to move on to somewhere bigger and richer than Hearts. He was a classier defender than Dave McPherson for example who went to Ibrox picked up 5 medals and came back. McPherson managed to extend his career long enough to win a Scottish cup in 1998 with maroon ribbons at the age of 34. Levein had been forced to finally retire in 1997 His legendary status around Tynecastle is in part down to the cruel twist that indirectly resulted in him being a “one club man”.
