bluearmyfaction
I suppose Brexit must have come as a huge shock to them when they bought the club in April.

The deal to buy Wigan was completed on 4th June so it's obviously due to Brexit. Just think of all that Championship revenue that is generated from EU membership that will soon be lost. The Covid-19 lockdown restrictions, loss of match day income, poor financial management or the civil unrest in Hong Kong must be irrelevant to the club's fall into administration. https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/football-league/wigan-athletic-administration-bust-bankrupt-coronavirus-covid-19-a9595531.html "David Sharpe, the former Wigan chairman and grandson of ex-owner Dave Whelan, who sold the club to IEC in late 2018, told The Independent in April that the pandemic would exacerbate the Championship’s “broken” financial model." He must be wrong too! Where did I say there was no other influencing factors? I said they cited brexit as "one of" their reasons for pulling out. They literally wrote about it in a stock exchange document. I chose to mention this specifically highlight the irony.
accies1874
Shame Preston look like they've fucked it for the play-offs. Wonder if Alex Neil is able to do much more with them.
bluearmyfaction
Rick Parry has let slip that there are rumours that Wigan's previous owner stands to make a mint from the Filipino betting markets if they go down. That would explain a lot. Choi gets shot of the club so he is not tainted with the insolvency, to a mate who will take the fall, and they go into admin to guarantee relegation. Which was looking on till they won 3 on the trot.

So if they get relegated anyway, they'd start L1 next season on -12. Or if they stay in the Championship, -12 is taken off their total points. Would be funny if what you said is true and they amassed enough points to stay in the league even with the deduction. Good chance of it too if they keep their current form up.
