Biggest tournament in senior non-league football, the South Challenge Cup concluded on Sunday, with East Kilbride defeating Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic in the final at Meggetland. Next season's tournament will sport a record entry of 70 clubs with the mighty Berwick Rangers entering the fold as well as Glenrothes. Selkirk went the way of all flesh.

South of Scotland League clubs toiled badly in 2018-19 managing just 2 victories, and both those were in all-South ties. Their aim will no doubt be to improve on that showing. In the early rounds a number of East of Scotland League clubs shocked Lowland opposition and they had 5-11 advance of clubs in Last 16. However by QFs it was 3-5 and SFs saw pair of clubs from each league. Glasgow Uni also enter.

Many clubs, established and newcomer, will no doubt be eyeing up a run in the trophy won thrice by East Kilbride and Spartans, twice by Whitehill and once each by Annan, BSCG, Civil Service and Stirling Uni.

Thoughts?

Great competition this year Hibee. The all in draw has meant loads of really good ties getting thrown up.

Train to Dumfries then cross over the River Nith and the ground's at the old Maxwelltown High School.

I'm not making the game so consider my directions a favour on the day of my brother's wedding.

BSC-Bo'ness is the pick of the round for me.

Aside from Gretna and Whitehill you'd fancy all the LL teams to go through (except from the ones playing other LL teams, obviously), although Newtongrange and Tranet could be potentially tough games for Berwick depending on whatever state they end up in.

Lochar Thistle now play at North West Community Campus (3g) which is just down the road from their old pitch.

"Hawick RA United", I assume that is the result of a merger with Hawick United?

Looking forward to the linlithgow v Gretna game! Are Gretna any good? Will it be a tough game for linlithgow?

Linlithgow will be favourites. Gretna have been declining in strength for some years. Since joining LL their finishing positions have been 7th, 3rd, 10th, 9th, 8th and most recently 12th.

In the season just ended they were beaten 3-0 at home by Camelon in this tournament, and lost 4-3 at home to Broxburn in EOS Qualifying Cup.

I'm not sure that makes Linlithgow favourites at this point though. East Stirling gave us a shoeing in this last year and we've lost a lot of goals most times we've played better opponents. We'll need to see where we are after all the summer comings and goings, but right now I'd say this one is in the balance.

The LL fixture list has Kinnoull in place of Eyemouth, v Spartans.

Sensible move in the circumstances and a formidable tie for these newly-welcomed seniors. That said - a fairly unusual move for a club to "take on" another side's commitment.

Way back in 1897-98 possibly the most extreme example of this occurred in the old SFL Division Two, when Renton folded in November with 4 league losses to their name. Hamilton Academical not only joined but took on their record - completing the remaining 14 games.
