glensmad
Yes, to be fair on reflection from my notes for the match report and from Gerry's video, we actually didn't play too bad. We just didn't defend well, which is a concern. We created lots of chances and on another day some of them would be goals. On to East Kilbride Thistle on Monday night now.

glensmad
There were many great saves by both keepers, but that one was particularly outstanding. It was an incredible stop, and it saved the referee's blushes as Aaron Black was miles offside.
glensmad
That was a bit better from us tonight, the tempo was higher and we had the game well and truly won before half time. We were sloppy in the second half, though, but never really in danger of letting Thistle back into the game.Blantyre's late winner at Larkhall means that they only need a draw on Wednesday night at East Kilbride to win the group, which they should get no problem. All we can do is go to Larkhall and try to win, while hoping there's a surprise result at The Showpark.I can't see it, personally, but you never know...

glensmad
Well that was a surprisingly pleasant twist of events tonight. [emoji846] For the second year in a row East Kilbride Thistle have ripped up the script and beaten the team who only needed a draw to win the group, and this time we are the ones to benefit. [emoji106]To be honest, I never expected Thistle to get anything out of that match tonight, and when Blantyre went 1-0 up I had pretty much given up hope. But the final 15 minutes changed everything. As for our game, we could have scored double figures if our finishing had been sharper, but I won't grumble with six. Dale Simeon with two goals and four assists was on top form tonight. So now we have a tasty wee match in the next round away to Cambuslang Rangers. [emoji846]That can wait, though, as we have three big matches ahead of it as we start our Premiership campaign. Home v Kilbirnie Ladeside, away v Kirkintilloch Rob Roy, and home v Largs Thistle. Here we go.

jinky
Be interesting to see how Glens do in the Premier league?...thought they may have added a couple of other defenders?..how have the new additions looked?

Gavin Mackie has started very well, everybody is impressed by his performances so far, positive and energetic. Gavin Lachlan has scored five goals in seven games (including pre-season) and appears to be settling in reasonably well.

glensmad
The new SJFA West Region Championship league winners flag donated by Hamish Allan will be unveiled at 1.45pm before tomorrow's opening game of the Premiership season by The Right Honourable Lord McAvoy PC. We would encourage all Rutherglen Glencairn supporters to come early to witness this event.

History in the making indeed as this may well be the only time that Tommy graces a fitba park without a union meeting being in progress. In fact,if we believe local lore, during his and his brother Eddie's times as stewards in the Hoover factory, the work force spent more time on the Somervell turf than some of the 'Lang players. Of course Eddie went on to be the top man at SLDC so the boys,as they say, done good.
R.G.F.C
What a game that was today it had everything from great goals to defensive howlers. Great start to the season from the team and Jay Mckay the wee mans effort for the team is unreal at times 2 goals and assist.
glensmad
It was a cracking game, the sun was shining, lots of goals, a penalty, woodwork hit twice, some controversy (the absolutely blatant penalty not given), and The Glens winning made it just perfect. We took till midway through the first half to settle and get on the ball and Kilbirnie were all over us before that without making Garry Whyte seriously work. The opening goal was a thing of beauty, and Simeon really is in good form at the moment. We collapsed for five minutes after taking the lead with two individual mistakes by big Soaby, but the big man showed great character to recover and had a brilliant second half.Simeon returned the favour to set up McKay for our equaliser, and the finish for the winner was top drawer from the wee man.All in all a really good start for us. Feet firmly on the ground though. It's one game.
