Rutherglen Glencairn 2019-20

A really good result for us tonight winning 6-2 away at Cumbernauld Colts. We took the lead early on then lost control of the game for the second quarter to go behind at half time. Former Glens player Fraser Team missed a sitter for Colts about ten minutes into the second half, and that was the turning point as we equalised almost straight after that, then went ahead two minutes later. We never looked back after that and controlled the game to run out easy winners in the end.

Pictures and full match report to follow.

That was a good performance from us this afternoon to see us into tomorrow's final at Kilbirnie. We were well on top in the first half and deserved the goal right on half time. When we scored early in the second half as well we were comfortable. We switched off a bit at 3-0 to lose the goal from a corner, but we got going again and it could have been a few more than the five we got.

Kilbirnie are already 2-0 up as I type this, so a big test awaits us tomorrow in the final for our final pre-season match.

Three wins out of three in pre-season so far, and 16 goals scored, so no matter how tomorrow goes we really shouldn't grumble.

A disappointing and disjointed performance from us today, but it's another 45 or 90 minutes in the tank for some of the squad. I suspect we'll have quite a different starting team when we play Kilbirnie in our first League game in a couple of weeks.

No complaints about today's result, we didn't really start playing till the second half. If Simeon's curler had gone in at 2-0 instead of hitting the post then it might have been different, instead we were 3-0 down only a few moments later. That's football.

Now for the real stuff.

Thought your wide men against Whitletts looked really dangerous and caused them all sorts of problems. It was the opposite on Sunday against Kilbirnie they never really kicked a baw.

Yes, hard to disagree with that, for some reason we were really flat on Sunday. I don't know if that was down to the first team management being on holiday, or the fact that it was a Sunday, or tiredness from the Saturday or whatever. We were missing a few players, but so were Kilbirnie, and we still had a squad of 16 available. But it seemed flat from the moment we arrived, and that showed out on the pitch. We didn't really turn up until the second half.

I expect our team selection for the league game against Kilbirnie in a couple of weeks to be different to yesterday's, so hopefully we'll put up a better show over the 90 minutes.

Still pre-season, players still getting up to speed so it's hard for them playing saturday and sunday. Just want to get through these games with no injuries.

Kilbirnie look more solid this season, should be a good game in a couple of weeks.

Unsure if it was due to injuries or what but the Kilbirnie defence was rock solid and think the Glens may struggle in that department unless they have players out?!

Yes, we had a makeshift defence for yesterday due to injuries and players unable to make it for the Sunday. It wasn't our first choice goalkeeper either.

Rutherglen Glencairn FC were deeply saddened to learn this morning that lifelong club member and supporter Hamish Allan has passed away after a short illness. We would like to send our deepest sympathies to Hamish's wife Elizabeth and the rest of the family.

Not the ideal start for us today, but no complaints about the result. Blantyre were "on it" from the start and their front three of Black, MacDonald and Millar really troubled us.

Having said that, had we taken a couple of our first half chances we could very well have won the game, but we didn't.

The gaffers are back for Monday night's game at home to East Kilbride Thistle, so hopefully we can get back on track quickly.

Poor today as much as the chances we had in the first half we could easily have conceded 3 or 4 by ht.

Cb pairing for me now a concern for the top league they were all over the place today and could be a long season if no one else is brought in.

The first half was crazy, I've just gone through my notes for the match report and it could easily have been 5-5 at half time.

The boy Black was outstanding for Blantyre today.
Plus point for Glens is Gavin Lachlan looking like a good signing and adding another goal threat from midfield.
The front three of Blantyre were all excellent, but yes Aaron Black was particularly useful.

Gavin Lachlan is showing a handy knack of scoring goals with late runs into the box. That's two today to add to his three goals in four pre-season games. He could have had a couple more today as well, he was particularly unlucky with the one which hit the underside of the bar.

There's a fair bit of pressure on Lachlan to be fair, as he is being seen by the support as the man replacing Del Esplin. Gavin has made a steady if unspectacular start to his Glencairn career in the centre of midfield, but if he keeps scoring goals he'll soon settle in fully. He seems a quiet lad but confident lad, hopefully there's more to.come from him when he gets to know the way we play and the runs players make over the next few games. You could see a few times today that the likes of Simeon and Leyden were making good runs off the ball but not getting the passes that they expect. That will come when Lachlan settles in more, it's still early days.

Our other summer signing Gavin Mackie has started very well and the fans have really taken to him. Hopefully the goals will start to come for him too, as he's been unlucky on a few occasions, this afternoon as well.
