RossDee01
There could well be bids in for Shankland, United can’t stop that from happening. However the financial benefits of promotion to the club will outweigh any fee that a club will pay for a Scottish Championship player. You’ll get 4 sold out away crowds if you’re lucky in the premiership with Celtic and Rangers. The rest of the away supports are no better than the Championship. You’ll likely lose 2 sell out away crowds with Dundee so not sure where all these financial benefits are coming from, it’s not the English Premier League. Obviously, yes there’s more money, depending on your finish come the end of the season and depending on how well the old firm do in Europe, but if someone comes in and makes a bit for £1.5m - £2m that would outweigh any financial benefits of being promoted.

The benefit of going up this season isnt just the extra prize money next season in the Premiership it's the extra prize money, gate receipts, sponsorship etc. next season and every subsequent season that we spend in the top flight against the potential for even more seasons in the Championship and the damage that will do to the balance sheet. £2m wouldn't come close to covering that.

Bigmouth Strikes Again
Better hope five-Heid doesn't get injured. The whole house of cards will come crashing down. Imo.

ArabFundamentalist
Give them a break. Clinging on to the the hope that we'll sell Shankland is the only thing keeping them going.
Szamo's_Ammo
You 8-2 see the Shankphobia on display. God forbid he and United actually get out of 2nd gear in the next derby.

The real benefit is not lumping out Premiership wages (as you are undoubtedly doing now) with a Championship income. That's perfectly reasonable. It's not the route the new owner has chosen but it's no doubt a perfectly sensible alternative model to follow. The downside of course of spending a championship size budget is that you get a championship standard team and then you cross your fingers and hope for the best. We've tried that, tbf.
DA Baracus
Alloa and Arbroath famously bring the same size of support as Hibs and Hearts to away grounds. Motherwell and Kilmarnock definitely don't bring more fans than Queen of the South and Inverness.

You’re lucky if Killie, Motherwell etc bring over 200, the likes of Hamilton and Ross County bring under 50 - especially when you change the prices United will. Home attendances won’t change too much bar probably the first couple of home games. It also depends how the fixture lists works, you could hit the jackpot and have Rangers, Celtic and Aberdeen all at hike twice but you could also always only have them once. The argument I was making isn’t that you don’t make more money in the premiership anyway. The argument was that if a team comes in for £1.5m - £2m in January with adds-ones etc that would be of more financial benefit that a couple hundred extra fans next season.
