Bus through was quality, boozer before hand was jumping then United put in a performance like that. To have a team with Robertson, Ciftci, Gauld, Armstrong etc and get turned over from a bunch of diddies like St Johnstone was a kick in the stones. To be fair, they farmer c***s deserved it and they cemented their place as Taysides second most successful team since the late 1970s I was more gutted at the MyPa game tbh.

But for every good one there was a Warren Feeney or Roy O'donovan. <Shudders> Even Jim McLean signed a few diddies - it's the nature of the business! Hence why (going back to a previous discussion) you're better carefully investing in just 3/4 new (hopefully) first choice players rather than trying to buy a whole new side each summer. FWIW - It won't happen but I reckon the club couldn't make a better investment right now than bringing Levein back in as Director of Football. Swanson was a phenomenal player who could single-handedly boss a game - a midweek game against St Johnstone (when JMW scored a screamer) and an away game at Hibs when he scored a left-footed curler spring to mind - but I'm not convinced he will have the legs to be a starter. He could be a decent option off the bench, right enough, especially if we need someone playing infront of Butcher and Powers who can pass a football. 2 hours ago, Granny Danger said: I was more gutted at the MyPa game tbh. That would be a terrible idea. He built that Hearts team that is about to be relegated. And before you respond about the work he did at United, I get that but it's 10 years ago now so it's not relevant anymore. Since then he's been a disaster at Scotland and was an even bigger disaster the moment the difficulty was raised at Hearts.

Depressingly I think I can put put an entirely different rival XI just from last few seasons Curran Johnson Nicholls Slater Gillespie Rabitsch Mason Quinn van der Struijk Toshney Zwick I can't even find a place for Briels and Szromnick Side Show Bob Tim(?) Khul would make a good addition as would Adam Taggart who arrived around the same time. Timothy Van Der Meulen too, may be a bit far back for "recent" though? Mental to think we could probably make 3 starting 11s of utter tosh that would fumble about the lower end of the Championship from the recent past. 12 minutes ago, ArabFC said: Even Jim McLean signed a few diddies - it's the nature of the business! Yeah I get that. And ordinarily id agree with the 3/4 quality players idea but I'm of the opinion that for this up coming season we need more than 3/4 good players to stay out of the danger zone. Not to start up that debate again but we need two full backs for cover at least, Another forward. Two wingers. At least one first choice centre half and a midfielder that can pick a forward pass. Mind you, the current situation will dictate how many we sign and we may not see anything for a couple of months yet!

We also had (have) an utterly shite record at Parkhead and, with the exception of two glorious days, a habit of shitting ourselves in the Scottish Cup Final. It was the perfect storm.

I'm off to get the fairy liquid! And I agree re Swanson. Skillful player who, if still fit enough, could make an impact off the bench at the very least. 2 minutes ago, Mark Connolly said: We also had (have) an utterly shite record at Parkhead and, with the exception of two glorious days, a habit of shitting ourselves in the Scottish Cup Final. Shala was obviously a cup specialist since he also scored in the League Cup that season.

McLean was manager for almost a thousand years; it’s barely surprising he signed a few diddies. Some are dead, some are still under contract, some are both. I’m going to forgive him for his substandard signings. I don’t want Levein back. We must look forward. ETA. I was convinced that when MyPa scored they were going to go on and score a second. It did nothing to numb the pain I felt walking down the road after the game. Edited May 17, 2020 by Granny Danger

I think this was my first realisation of the complete pointlessness of Scottish football. Celtic won the cup, and their fans clapped a little and toddled off home. Whats another trophy to that lot? Can anyone honestly envisage any team other than Celtic or Rangers winning the league in their lifetime? Outwith a rich sheikh deciding to have a Scottish plaything, it ain't gonna happen.

Accent-Unknown
Connolly was more highly rated than Robertson at Queens Park apparently, for what little that is worth. Like many player under Jackie, I honestly think that if he was coached correctly, he would've been good. But no one will know for sure.
