2019/2020 Predictor Championship.

Recommended Posts

1) Celtic - Look increasingly jaded but you can't buy experience so should see off a stronger Rangers challenge.

2) Rangers - Rangers lost their fear of Celtic last season and look like they might actually challenge this season but with that comes additional pressures that they haven't really had to deal with up till now.  Can they deal with those?  I suspect not.

3) Aberdeen - Will have to improve at home but in a league with remarkably little quality outside the top two they should manage a third place.

4) Hibernian - Not convinced on Heckingbottom but outside the top three its hard to see who will finish above them.

5) Hearts - Everything that's wrong with Scottish football and yet will probably finish in a relatively cosy position.  Says it all really about the quality of the league.

6) Motherwell - Have lots of forward options, in contrast to Kilmarnock.  And when they have Turnbull back and running they have one of the very best players in the league.

7) Kilmarnock - Have struggled for goals since Stewart left last season and you don't win games without scoring.  Should be strong enough in other areas though to be comfortable.

8( Ross County - Saw them a couple of times last season and they looked like a solid Premiership side.  Nothing flashy about them but unlike a few teams around them I don't think scoring will be a problem for them.  And no one wants to travel up to Dingwall.

9) St. Johnstone - Were poor last season and yet still finished 7th (see Hearts about quality of the league).  Despite claims of a re-invention there last term they are still looking to all the same old faces (Wotherspoon, Davidson, Craig, O'Halloran, Kane, Foster etc.)  Look stale, their own manager says the fringe players aren't good enough, few new signings and you are struggling to see many goals out this team.  Baring some good quality signings can only see them dropping down from last terms position.

10) Livingston - Seemed to do OK in the League Cup stages although it was a fairly weak group.  Lost key players but there are still enough decent guys there to keep them up.  Players like Jacobs, Pittman and Sibbald and are step up from what Accies and St. Mirren have.

11) Hamilton - Leaked goals against the likes of Partick, Clyde and Airdrie.  That will be their Achilles heel.  Elsewhere it will be interesting to see what guys like Cunningham, Lewis Smith, Mimnaugh will do as they come into the first team and Alston is a good signing for a team like Accies.  Might surprise a few on their day but don't see them achieving consistency.

12) St. Mirren - Goodwin is stepping up a level and about to find out that keeping Alloa in the Championship was easier than keeping St. Mirren in the Premiership.  Squad is thin, there aren't many goals there and they need a raft of signings if they are going to avoid the relegation places.

  1. Celtic - If they retain all of their current squad, they should still be a fair bit ahead, especially with Griffiths back playing.
  2. Rangers - A strong squad in depth and quality. But I feel they are not quite strong enough to stop 9IAR
  3. Aberdeen - They've signed well and have been in good form so far.
  4. Hearts - I think our squad is well above the bottom 7 or so clubs in quality of player and depth (Souttar, Berra, Halkett, Smith, Walker, Naismith etc). One or two more experienced midfielders could see us challenge for 3rd. The main negative is Levein, who has a lot to prove in most fans eyes.
  5. Hibs - Signing players from League 1 or 2 down south can be hit and miss, again though their squad is quite a bit ahead of the bottom 7 clubs
  6. Motherwell - Have a good chance to finish in the top half.
  7. Ross County - It's  a tough away trip for most clubs and I think their momentum from last season will keep them safe.
  8. Kilmarnock - Steve Clarke was working miracles with a very limited squad, could go even lower.
  9. Livingston - Have signed well and look to have been doing well in pre-season.
  10. St Johnstone - won't trouble either the top 6 or the relegation places muchos mehness
  11. Hamilton - As usual they will bite, scratch, poke, gouge, punch their way to safety. But may have to beat one of the Dundee clubs in the playoffs.
  12. St Mirren - An awful squad of which they haven't made enough additions yet.
