2019/20 Challenge Cup

Recommended Posts

Hearts 'B' and Rangers 'B' look the most likely - but they've all got good prospects if Clyde, Airdrie and Falkirk put out their 2nd-strings.

Never mind a 2nd string, if we play our first choice defence there is plenty chance motherwell kids will hump us.

From memory Motherwells Colts/u21s have done consistently well in the Challenge Cup since the colts/u21s (depending on branding) were admitted. You’re humped.

Yeah they are usually decent. They had Hastie and Turnbull playing for them last season and reached the QF, papping out Sligo Rovers along the way and only losing 2-1 to eventual winners County.

Since they've been involved in the tournament our 'Colts' record is:

16/17
02/08/16 - Motherwell u20s 2 - 1 Edinburgh City
16/08/17 - Motherwell u20s 1 - 2 Airdrieonians

17/18
16/08/17 - Motherwell Colts 2 - 1 Queens Park
02/09/17 - Crusaders 3 - 2 Motherwell Colts

18/19
14/08/18 - East Stirlingshire 0 - 3 Motherwell u20
06/09/18 - Dundee u20 1 - 2 Motherwell u20
13/10/18 - Motherwell u20 2 - 0 Sligo Rovers
17/11/18 - Motherwell u20 1 - 2 Ross County

19/20
07/08/19 - Motherwell u21s 1 - 0 Spartans

Tbh I'd be surprised if they have enough to beat Clyde this time round.

The team that played against Spartans consisted of about 3 or 4 players who've only recently been promoted from the Academy there were a good few 16 year olds playing. Really it's a new cycle as the likes of Turnbull, Hastie, Maguire, Livingstone, Scott etc have either moved on or been promoted to the first team.

Along with that a couple of players who were part of this age group have moved on as well; Stuart McKinstry signed for Leeds at the start of the summer and Reece McAlear signed for Norwich a couple of weeks ago.

The only players who were involved in the last round with any first team experience were Jamie Semple and David Devine. The average age of that starting XI was 17:

Morrison (21); Brown (17), Devine (18), Hussain (18), McDonald (16); Robertson (16), Kettings (17), Semple (18); MacIver (20), Starrs (17), Cook (17)
Subs: Hemfrey (17), Muir (17), Williamson (16)

Should have won that Crusaders game, they went on to do well that year.

Interesting tactic to see clubs attempt to bribe scabs fans with chocolate to get them through the doors for this farce

They should have stuck with Irn Bru's sponsorship and handed out free cans of the original recipe at the turnstile.

Guaranteed full houses across the board.

Under the Irn-Bru deal the 'payment in kind' was cases of Strathearn water. I happened to be speaking to an official at a club a while ago who said they'd a mountain of them in a lock-up.

Rather less glamorous than even Irn-Bru or a chocolate biscuit - and I suppose they couldn't have been distributed anyway, being a 'prohibited container'!

Ross Munro is on a development loan from Ross County to Raith Rovers. For tonight's match, is he eligible to play for both teams, just one, or neither?

If he played in the last round for Ross County he will be cup tied.  We have this issue with Alex Petkov and Hearts.

You'd happily accept Colt sides into the league system if it made Cowden a couple of quid, so your craven views should be pitied and ignored by most right-thinking people.

No have consistently resisted any such imposition - don't judge others by your own low standards. Happy to leave you to heroically man the barricades against the bogeyman though - I'm more Arthur Montford than Arthur Scargill

Quite a good statement from Dumbarton supporters trust saying that they fully understand  supporters not wanting to endorse Colt teams inclusion in this cup by staying away, the alternative they suggest is to give the club the price of admission by some means so Dumbarton are not punished.

Will be heading up to our game v Formartine tonight as am happy to have HFL/LL sides included, our season ticket includes all cup matches & so far have never had to face playing a Colt team in this but have made it known to folk at the club I would not attend a Colts tie.
