2019/20 Challenge Cup

Regardless of his argument, that's an irrelevant yardstick, given all those countries have had 1 club play 1 tie thusfar compared to our 10 ties thusfar.

And their performance is inflated by bonus points 'earned' by qualification for the group stage of the Champions League.

Dylan Easton and Chris Dodd were both substituted on Saturday, Easton was definitely injured so probably why he wasn't starting tonight.

Obviously clubs making 1 or 2 changes are quite possibly just for injury/form reasons. Those making 3 or 4 may be a combination. When 6, 7, 8, 9 changes from 11 are involved, it's clearly not "strongest XI".

Thanks for digging that out Hibee Jibee hopefully it clears up that loads of cash is being handed out to non Scottish sides.

The only thing I have against the Colt teams is that right from the start the Challenge Cup was just being used as a tool to get entry into the league system which would have led to some teams having more than one team in the league system which would have restricted proper teams like Edinburgh or Cove  earning a league place. There was all the guff about creating international players because of experience gained against part time lower league players. Colt teams have added nothing to the competition & if more teams were needed they should have come from the HFL &  LL. Good to see  Jim still gets a reaction from Virginton even although he was the only one to mention him.

That makes a sweeping assumption that the sponsors/other TV would have put in the same monies without these other clubs being involved.  Secondly, you are advancing the argument re a tool for Colts getting into League system - no particular evidence to support that conclusion and it hasn't happened.  Thirdly not sure that more clubs from LL and HL would add more to the allure of the competition for SPFL clubs

Have never seen for anything more than it is, a competition for lower league clubs with an outside chance of picking up a cup for one. You can see by the number of changes some teams have made tonight how it ranks with league clubs at this stage.

If some lower league clubs don't look at Edinburgh City's run last season and want some of that for themselves then that's their own fault for being run by utter morons.

Tbf... Irn-Bru and Tunnock are clearly Scottish-centred brands. BBC Alba have shown as many all-Scottish ties as not, and upon joining BT Sport selected an all-Scottish SF last season.

So potentially diminished more likely than non-existent. Question - viewed financially in last season's context - is ultimately whether diminution would be more or less than say £135-150k or whatever it would've ultimately ended-up. (Indeed more given Scottish clubs wouldn't need away travel grants either).

Scottish brands that clearly wish to increase sales in markets outwith Scotland

Elgin beat Hibs 4-3 at Easter Road, would love to know what the crowd was. I don't know a single person that was interested.

Hibs 'B' v Elgin just announced as 424.

Fraserburgh v Ross County 'B' revised down 25.

No crowd from Livi yet. According to Livi fan on twitter "around 100". All-time low 110 for Dundee 'B' v Alloa, albeit a few have gone unreported.

Having been involved in the only challenge cup final requiring it to be held at the National Stadium in front of I think 48.000 fans think I can appreciate the good side of the tournament. It has all went downhill since then mainly with the inclusion of the Colt teams I think. The other nationalities being involved has caused even more embarrassment with teams involved in the later stages unable to fulfil fixtures.

Also interesting to look at it from the context of the list of players rested I posted... Until recently it would have been rare for proper clubs from the lowest levels not to put out their first XI, or something approaching it, though there were cases (famously Clyde once essentially sent out their own youths!)... Tonight half seem to have rested at least half their team from Saturday.

In particular, you've even some Highland & Lowland clubs qualifying for a place, then appearing not to play their strongest side: notably tonight Fraserburgh (6 changes) and East Kilbride (7).

Given we had 9 changes and recovered from two goals down, I'm fairly happy with the performance.

Referee bottled a cert "last man" foul by a Celtic sprog. Quel surprise!

Once again, we finished very strongly and could have snatched it at the death.

No idea who Celtic had out, but I didn't see much there that's going to turn the fortunes of the Scotland international team around. Get the colts teams in the sea.
