Yes, clearly even with buffer of David’s large wage being gone and the transfer fee which of course remains undisclosed.

We’d better prepare ourselves for a long hard slog in a very tough league. 8th would be acceptable now. Anything better will be over achieving and top 4 a pipe dream.

This is all assuming that DGW's wages came out of the general playing budget pot. There are plenty of past stories of individuals picking up the tab for select players in order to ever be able to afford them. in fact was it not a classic example of the John Brown <shudder> era that when he left, the "guaranteed" funding for a number of players suddenly got withdrawn, leaving us in a financial hole?

So, assuming DGW was funded outside of the budget or that he was subsidised over and above his equal share of the budget, then you need to look at the supporting cast from last year to give you a realistic idea of what we can afford this year if the budget is the same. Also factor in that whatever we received for the DGW transfer, a chunk of that went back to Raith due to the ill conceived load deal that saw us pay 4 or 5 month part salary for 0 appearances.

I believe there was no external funding for his wages last season

9 weeks at £400 supposedly so £3,600 - wonder if that’s all that we lost on the transfer fee?

I'm sure that was one of the questions in the owners Q&A and that Goodwillie's wages weren't financed externally to avoid the exact scenario you describe.

Can understand why we've brought the two young guys in with no trialists being allowed in the Cup. You got to think that should have been looked at as it was pretty obvious that with the season starting so early most clubs would be struggling.

Would like to think we still have a chunk of the playing budget left. Goodwillie and Mitchell would surely have been two of the highest plus we have the transfer fee for both.

Goodie a grand a week

Balatoni £400 a week

Mitch £400

I think this is accurate- Gomis? 350 or 400

with what we’ve signed so far I can’t see the money available for players being the same as last year

How have Edinburgh pulled off signing Kieran McDonald!?

Decent financial backing compared to us who have the charity tins out

Or maybe they have an even more impressive scouting network than us 😂

He left Hamilton for work commitments so would've been looking to go part-time

So why were we not aware of this given Danny’s link with John Rankin? Surely he’d have been a great addition

They must have been aware, it’s been on several news feeds etc.

But nothing would really surprise me about recruitment and our club, beginning to to look all to familiar isn’t it?

It certainly is sadly

I’d have hoped we’d have looked at him but fully expected him to sign for an Airdrie or similar. Not great that he’s strengthened a rival signing for Edinburgh. Could we sign Callum Crane from Edinburgh then please? I’d imagine he would strengthen us in that area of the pitch.

Interesting that both Peterhead and Edinburgh have signed a player that’s played in the championship last season (Ryan Dow & Kieran McDonald) hopefully these players that Danny speaks of that are keeping their options open come in soon

Dow was at Peterhead for a short time 2 or 3 seasons ago before he moved to Dunfermline in the Championship. Think his Peterhead debut was against us at Broadwood.
