How was Dylan Easton at you guys,    magic man or sand dancer......

He was terrific. We played Kilmarnock in his first competitive game and they couldn't get near him. He was thoroughly entertaining to watch albeit a wee bit irritating in that he'd sometimes keep the ball himself rather than passing it. I'll be honest, it didn't actually irritate me at all. What surprised me most was the number of times he won the ball back high up the pitch. He got injured in September and still finished third in assists for the season.

What's clear I think is that the team has to be built around him. And that will have an impact if he ends up missing a run of games. Following that injury we just got progressively worse.

Conrad Balatoni signs. Quite content with that.

OK, happy enough with that. Get a younger head next to him Lang style and we’re talking.

I’m hoping the fact because it’s early, we might get a few more?

Two years ago that'd be a great signing, now not so much. I'm pretty sure Edinburgh had started using him sparingly at the end of the season, whether that was fitness related or not I'm unsure.

ETA: Big Bad Conrad does having a passing resemblance to Pat Scullion, though, so he will be afforded greater patience than most in these quarters

Still only 30 so should be fit enough to play most games, think he’s a good signing in terms of quality and experience.

I’m pleased enough with that, certainly a class act in his day.

He is 30? Surely not, I thought he’d be 35 at least. If that was the case then I’m delighted.
The Balatoni I watched for Edinburgh couple of years ago was better than Howie or in fact Lang (on last seasons performances). Fingers crossed we are still getting that player.

He certainly played like he was 35 the last couple of times we played them. Albeit having been excellent on the previous occasions.

That said, he is a major improvement on the current situation. Can easily see him being a good partner for a certain type of centre half.

Thank god everyone is pleased with this signing, i wasn't sure, initially i thought he was well into his 30's  but  i do remember he was a very capable CH. Hopefully he still has another good season or 2 in him.

Can I express some doubt?  On his Twitter page, Balatoni describes himself as an ex footballer!😮

Hopefully he wrote that before he signed for us and no after.....

A positive spin might be that there's some hearsay evidence to suggest we beat Dumbarton to Balatoni's signature. See their thread.

Balatoni fits the bill insofar as he's a central defender that can play a bit. We don't have any of those. As a sweeper in a three he could be an asset. However in a two, especially if paired with Rumsby, I think we'd be asking for trouble if we started him. Unless his partner was an outstandingly dominant centre back that is. Then maybe we'd have a tolerable balance.

He's not the quickest. And he's not the biggest or greatest in the air. That's why I say what I do. But he does have decent experience and is a good, composed player in possession most of the time.

Na you never, I completely made that rumour up.

Hearing Clyde have also beaten us to the signing of Bobby Barr. Can you confirm?

Damn you...!

Well I'll compensate with another piece of positivity then. He's a left footed central defender and there aren't a lot of good ones going around. That's another point in his favour and it probably featured in Danny's thinking. He does like to play out from the back and being able to go out to both sides would be an improvement. McNiff didn't help much with that.

I'll also say that, as I remember him, Balatoni's quite good at reading the game. That's something we lost with Lang. And he isn't a timid defender in the way that some of the more technically gifted central defenders are these days.

Like I say, if we could get a right good aerially dominant centre back to play beside him it could actually be a good bit of business.

Correction: can play with his left (not left footed).
