Clyde FC; Season 2022-23

Recommended Posts

No surprise as the season isn't until October, plus a section of supporters didn't respond well to it. Might get a sudden rush if there's a suggestion season ticket holders might get into games.

There are a lot more owners than before, over 200 BWF draw participants. Anyone know the take up of the 1877 awards?

250 is steep as f**k, that's why numbers are down. The concession package is shite as well. I only bought an ST just to give the club money plus the new flexible ST makes it worthwhile for me whereas last season I didn't bother my arse as I miss too many games because of work.

Worth adding, the most expensive season ticket I've had was £240 in season 2004/05. This is the first season it has went above that.

I don't think they've done a good job of explaining that it can be shared between family or friends.

If you share the card with your pal then both of you get in for £14 per game each, £182 for the season each. That's instead of paying £17 each without the card.

Any left over balance can also be reclaimed or put towards the following season card.

Average inflation since 2005 has been around 2-2.5%. That means in today's money the £240 would be more like £325.

Saving of £75 😄

I agree with Jack, the club haven’t done a good job explaining the benefits of the digital season ticket. Moreover, unless I’ve missed one, there hasn’t been a tweet specifically about season tickets since the 6th of July. They get mentioned occasionally in interviews or tagged on to the end of other articles, but how can you moan about season ticket sales when you haven’t actively promoted them in over 7 weeks?

I follow the Glasgow Warriors facebook page and even though they’ve come out saying they won’t be signing any more players, and their new season doesn’t even have a start date yet AFAIK (I'm ignoring the pointless Edinburgh games), they still make weekly posts (often more than once a week) pushing their fans to buy a season ticket. I don’t like to criticise the guys who run our Twitter/website too much, as they’re obviously volunteers and generally our media output is very good, but by now we should have a basic template post about seasons tickets, the 1877 club etc that gets reposted once a week or so.

No matter what the benefits are, there’s no way to spin the fact that it’s a horrible deal for concessions. I’ll be honest and say I hadn’t looked at it too closely until now but the more you look into it, the worse it seems.

If you decide to go for the season ticket, both adults and concessions will get £13 deducted from their card at each game. Adults paying at the gate will be charged £17 so the season ticket gets them a good discount of £4 per game. Whereas concessions are only paying £14 at the gate, so only save £1 per game.

Add in the fact that you have to upload £250 at the beginning, so if you attend 18 home games at £13 each you will have £16 left over at the end of a season (excluding using it for cup games, in the shop etc here). Yes, that spare £16 can be carried over to the next season, but if you were to walk up to 18 games at £14 each your total spend would be £252. I know that you don’t lose the £16 left on your card, but it essentially feels like you’re being asked to pay £250 up front for a saving of £2!

Obviously, I’ve based the above on 18 games which would be a normal home league season. We’re not even going to get that this year so you’ll just end up with even more money tied up on your digital season ticket for even longer.

As has been pointed out before, when you compare it to the previous year, it looks even worse. The 19/20 concession season ticket was £165, and just £135 if you got the early bird offer. So you’re not far of doubling the early bird price now.

Also, as you can pay at the gate just using a contactless bank card now, you can’t even argue the season ticket is more convenient/saves carrying cash.

I know the club were desperate for money up front, but the pay in instalments option expired on the 6th of July. Considering we still have a month and a half to go, that seemed very premature.

I pay adult prices, so this doesn’t even affect me, but the extent to which this screws over concessions still annoys me. Even as someone who gives plenty of extra money to the club just because I am able to, if I was a concession, I probably wouldn’t buy a season ticket on a point of principle.

Obviously, for the sake of argument, I’ve assumed we’ll have normal season ticket and walk-up attendance for games, which is probably optimistic.

I get there are other benefits to the season ticket, and a digital ticket is a good idea in what will be a disrupted season, but I still can’t understand the concession pricing.

Feel free to point out any stupid mistakes/assumptions I’ve made.

I agree with what you've said. I have said for quite a while now that there doesn't ever appear to be devil's advocate playing out, where people double-check and question every action taken.

I think a bigger issue is that when this was pointed out (and it was mentioned early, and not just by concession ticket holders), there wasn't an update trying to explain how it could be cost effective for concessions (e.g. sharing, the balance being carried over to next season, a real emphasis on the payment options etc.). It was simply, as it so often is, a "We've explained it, now understand it yourself", with any criticism of it being taken as personal rather than constructive.

Yeah, I was aware of people complaining when it was announced but never looked at it closely enough to appreciate how bad it was until now.

As you say, the club seem to have a habit of being willing to discuss an issue once then just saying move on now, this has been covered.

What this man said!

Worth adding that once the team return next week there’s no reason as to why the club can’t begin to actively promote the season card again pointing out all the benefits. For some the idea of sharing a card would have been obvious but for others they wouldn’t have considered or thought about it.

Now fixtures are out & it’s not too long until the football returns I hope there’s a boost in sales. Could make all the difference in where we will be aiming to finish.

I still think a left-back needs to be a priority. We've played chunks of seasons with no specialist full-backs and it really shows how much we lack when you do bring those types of players in. Jamie Bain signing says to me that Cuddihy is going to be back at CM this season. I agree that Livingstone didn't set the heather alight but he was a solid full-back and I'm not sure we can get a player of equal quality.
