The AEW Thread

In the middle of all the hype about ex WWE guys, Daniel Garcia returned* and started getting main events all while officially being unsigned. Yet there hasn't been much concern over him stealing a spot from the AEW young guys.

*That's right returned, not debuted. This was someone losing to Lee Johnson and Joey Janela in singles less than 6 months ago.

That was the first AEW PPV i've actually paid for and enjoyed the whole show. Great stuff.

Never been that high on Moxley or Miro, but enjoyed Punk's match and the main event. The cage tag match was superb apart from the everyone superkick each other circle of pish that spoils a lot of young bucks matches for me.

Excited to see how all the pieces fit together moving forward now, and just hope they have some stories to tell that make use of the amazing roster

One thing I thought really didn't work was the Battle Royal thing.  I get why they do the format, and it does offer something a bit different to a Royal Rumble or standard WWE style Battle Royal.  But I thought it really suffered when the new entrants arrived.  You get the entrance and they charge in, usually with history with someone in the ring, and then while you're trying to focus on that, someone else is coming in right after.  Rinse and repeat 5 times per suit, 3 times in the match.

Really, really don't like the Young Bucks or Omega. Think their style is overly 'fake' and I don't think Omega can act very well. Jericho is another who just looks completely done to me.

Apart from those criticisms which are really still very off putting for me, I have to say I might be hooked on the other stuff.

Also, thanks to Ruby Soho debuting, I've had Rancid on all morning whilst working.

Same!!! Hahaha

Such a brilliant song for a wrestling entrance and the story about Friederiksen convincing her to take the name then giving her the song is awesome! The fact that they are starting it from the "go!" then straight into the chorus is just a great idea.

It's something they've tried tweaking. It's never quite gotten there. If I remember right the Tag Team version was just a straight 'Royal Rumble' effort.

The Joker idea doesn't really have legs in terms of being a surprise all the time.

If they want to keep the Casino theme, I would say just have 21 entrants. Then for the countdown have a graphic of a roulette wheel being spun to make it seem like the order is random. EDIT: You can even have the two tunnels be red and black lit. Flashing between them until the ball lands on the number to draw the eye to the new arrival.

That would definitely work later.  The way it is now just makes it a bit rubbish at the changeover point and doesn't give entrants time to actually make an impression.  Plus the 21st entrant always telegraphs a big deal entrant.

I like your idea, nice wee speedy 30-60 seconds between entrants, decent time filler.

Personally I quite like it

I suppose with him being a vegan, there’s sadly no chance of it being the Elmer Fudd version

ETA: actually, I can now picture MJF standing in the ring getting heel heat singing Kill the Wabbit as Danielson comes to the ring

Bray Wyatt close to signing with AEW.

Really not sure how I’d feel about that one. Bray Wyatt himself has lots to offer as like a cult leader or new Dark Order head (that’d make sense actually) but Fiend Wyatt has negative interest for me. They didn’t like the Broken Universe with Hardy so would hope/think they’d stay away from that side of him.

Would be holding off a few months for that debut too.

With the Dark Order "civil war" happening, I think it might come to a head at the Rochester Dynamite. Just before they collide, Hangman appears. Have him have some sappy speech about having seen his friendships torn apart by this kind of politicking. He doesn't need the Dark Order, and neither do they. They all have each other as friends.

Cue up at least Adam Cole, depending on how busy Omega & Bucks are at that point.

Yeah agree, saw a video (maybe Whatculture that pointed out that all the spooky shit just wouldn't work in AEW. Yes they did some stuff with Hardy but it seemed mostly played for laughs and was never to be taken entirely seriously.

I think it could work as Wyatt is a fantastic character wrestler but would have to tone down his act to more similar to the cult leader Bray Wyatt of old

I’d honestly hold off on Hangman for a while, worry about him getting lost in the shuffle at the minute.

Here's the Fightful story

A major star's WWE contract is coming due sooner than later, and it's one most people don't expect.
Fightful has been made aware that one WWE contract expires much sooner than originally thought by the public. Kevin Owens did an interview in May of 2018 with TVA Sports where he'd stated that he'd signed a new 5-year contract that would carry him into 2023. However, as it turns out, that deal is actually now up in January 2022, according to WWE sources.

We've learned from a WWE official that WWE restructured several contracts ahead of the pandemic, and for whatever reason, Kevin Owens' deal was changed to expire in January 2022. We were not told of any additional terms of the deal or specifically why it was shortened. We'll work to find out if any other deals were adjusted.

WWE has had contract issues of late with Pete Dunne and Adam Cole, but we're told by officials that they're aware of when Owens' deal would be up. Owens, real name Kevin Steen has been with WWE since they announced his signing in August 2014.
