Football's a funny old game. Last week Broxburn put 3 without reply past SPFL2 side Cowdenbeath. Today pasted by the same scoreline at table-proppers Sauchie.

Meanwhile just 4pts separate 8th from 14th.

This league is so tight hibbee top to bottom.  Got to be one of the most competitive leagues going about

Have to say that Sauchie were well deserved winners today.  No complaints no moans from me.

True enough. Interesting next week as only Dundonald are in action among top half (home to 11th Newtongrange). You've also 16th v 15th, 12th v 14th and 9th v 10th. Dunbar in cup duty.

Dunbar United 2-1 Jeanfield Swifts

Expected a sparse crowd, but a good turnout found their way inside a damp New Countess Park this afternoon.

Jeanfield should have won the game but instead left their longest away trip of the season with nothing but regrets. Dunbar were understandably ecstatic to come from behind to win and lift themselves from the relegation places to boot.

First half was almost all the visitors, with the hosts confined to occasional counter-attacks. I struggle to recall them even forcing a save from the Jeanfield stopper. Perth men couldn't get the ball in the net though, and it was close to HT when a free-kick from wide left seemed to bounce among the ruck of bodies and go straight in with the 'keeper flapping helplessly. At this stage, having dominated possession with repeated corners and spending extended periods camped around the Dunbar box, you expected them to increase their lead during 2nd half.

It was not to be and as time wore on the Seasiders began to gain a foothold in the game. They struck back around the hour mark, when a through ball got stood up and blasted sweetly in on the half volley from perhaps 25-30 yards out. Both sides were going for it now... but ex-Berwick veteran Frazer McLaren proved the home hero when he deftly nodded in a floated cross from the left wing, nudged across the face of the goal and into the side netting. Jeanfield, like their attackers 3 or 4 times in opening 45mins, had fallen flat on their faces.

Jeanfield looked a strong, pacey and technically agile team and on the basis of their 1st half performance should be much higher up the table. Perhaps inconsistency is their trouble, and if their sparse bench is an indicator maybe their squad is thin on the ground too. Dunbar were on the back foot for much of the contest but never gave up: they'll need that resilience to stay up.
So frustrating for us today.

Sums up season so far. Not killing teams off.

Short on numbers today due to 3 long term injuries, holiday, illness and 2 on loan.

No excuses though as should have taken maximum points

EoS Premier Division

Bo'ness United 3-1 Newtongrange Star
Camelon Juniors 2-1 Dundonald Bluebell
Dunbar United 2-1 Jeanfield Swifts
Hill of Beath Hawthorn 3-0 Musselburgh Athletic
Penicuik Athletic 4-1 Crossgates Primrose
Sauchie Juniors 3-0 Broxburn Athletic
Tranent Juniors P-P Linlithgow Rose
Whitehill Welfare 2-0 Blackburn United

Bottom 3 at the start of play al won, with Sauchie's 3-0 win over Broxburn being the biggest surprise. Results keep it tight at the bottom but only good enough for Dunbar to break out of the automatic relegation zone.

Bo'ness and Camelon looking to break away in the chase for the Championship.

In a battle for survival and so today the bottom 3 teams (Dunbar Whitehill  & Sauchie) win and 4th bottom (Musselburgh)  get beat!

Last week: Musselburgh 3 - 6 Jeanfield

This week Dunbar Utd 2 - 1 Jeanfield

Sauchie get 3 pts deducted on 27 July for fielding an ineligible player in match against HoB. Had this not happened, with all things being equal, Burgh would have dropped to bottom of league.  Not 1 away point this season - worst away record in EoS main 3 leagues.

in second last season of old Juniors set up, come Oct, we were looking at a top 3 finish as we were one of best teams in league! Come May, we were relegated. Make no mistake, if fortunes do not change quickly the boys from the Honest Toun are in deep trouble.

Not missed a competitive match this season for main team. Missed only two Under 20 competitive matches, so I’m not jumping on any negative bandwagon here.

Around 30 matches watching Burgh’s two teams and it’s not a good feeling.

Casey, let's hope they listen to you this time around unlike about three years ago when they assumed they were too good to go down and ignored repeated warnings and that was when they were placed much higher than they are tonight.

Can't help feeling the same fascination and focus on cup competitions has yet again reared it's head.

If they are on these forums then my friendly advise is to field me and you for the cup matches (Even the cup final) - these games are not important. You will probably have a Scottish Cup entry through the hard work gaining a licence for next season anyway. - don't repeat the same mistakes of a few years ago were fans focusing on cup games and underestimating league games rubbed off on the players.

Thanks for your excellent accurate reports from the games.

I think it will be a shame for whoever is relegated this season as I think all 16 teams are too good to go down

Poor from us yesterday on a gluepot pitch was really wasn't playable. Standing water was being swept/forked from the pitch 10 mins before KO and the ball didn;t bounce in many areas.

We should have went in ahead after hitting the post and passing up another two great chances, inc a goal line clearance, but if you don't take your chances in this league it bites you on the arse and so it happened in the second half in which Welfare looked the more hungry and we just never turned up. Two simple long balls from the keeper undone us when we should have defended a whole lot better.

Oh well, always next week.

A heavy pitch in Scotland in November who'd have thought it 😂

Credit to the committee who were probably doon there all week making sure there would be a game on.

If only we all had that easy to maintain artificial surface 😉

Soor grapes, oh well, always next week 👍

Took in the camelon game yesterday. Enjoyable game given the conditions with the pitch being completely sodden and a prolonged period of torrential rain in the second half. Even first half with camelon just edging it and probably deserving of their lead at half time. Bluebell pushed hard in the second half and were much more direct in their approach to the game which, given the conditions was probably the right thing to do. They had three really good chances, a couple of which were pretty much sitters. However camelon held on under a fair bit of pressure to take the points. Some good footballers on show yesterday with the numbers seven and nine for bluebell in particular catching the eye. All told a good game featuring two good teams who tried to play football in tough conditions.

The pitch wasn't playable in many areas. The patch in front of the dugout was under water 10 mins before ko. I was standing next to a guy, presumably a local, who said he was surprised the game was going ahead.

It didn't have any bearing on the result in the end, but it didnt make for any sort of good football. Just facts, not soor grapes Broony.

Bah humbug. No complaints from me about result, we deserved nothing from that second half performance.

Sauchie result was right out of the blue.

Can't help but feel the 4-3 defeat at Bo'ness at the death will have knocked some life out of the team.  A result that night and things would now be oh so different.

This division won't be won early.  Loads of twists and turns to come but as Alan has already said, having the points on the board is much preferable to games in hand.

Two similar matches Jamboree.

First match of season we played Dunbar away. With seven minutes remaining, home side down to 10 players, with Burgh leading 2-1. Full time  Dunbar 3-2 Musselburgh - so we conceded 2 goals in last 7 minutes.

Match you refer to, Burgh are 3-2 up when your team go down to 10 players. Full time Bo’ness 4-3 Musselburgh with winner in 88 mins.

Both matches, we should have shut up shop in closing minutes; if done we could have 4 more points, but instead get 0.

Beating Linlithgow 6-2 was a great day for fans and players. But we’ve been beaten by Crossgates, Newtongrange and Dunbar - all in bottom half of league. I’d swap Linlithgow’s win with one of other teams as just now we are in a mini competition around 6 teams to see who stays and who gets relegated.

Musselburgh have already exited South Challenge and EOS Qualifying cups, and reached Alex Jack final.

League Cup doesn't start until March.

Unfocusing from cups would only save 1 game... i.e. lose Alex Jack final = not contest South & East Shield... and that would seem rather foolish given it'd guarantee Scottish Cup entry.

Agreed!  Musselburgh will be totally focused on beating Oakley in final and the decider, when that comes. Seeing teams from our league do well in this season’s Scottish cup means I want same involvement next season as do all at Olivebank. The same also applies to staying in the Premier league next season. Plenty of matches to achieve, but we have to get out of this losing run.
