Jed Steer

Recommended Posts

I'm a Villa fan and the rumours from down there are suggesting that the sfa are trying to get Villa keeper Jed Steer to switch allegiance to Scotland.  Don't know how much truth there is in it but there we go. He's just come off a star performance in the playoffs

Deary me, we really are the most desperate, pathetic and downtrodden nation / people on this earth.

Yeah. Imagine not defining nationality by accident of birth alone. What have we become?

Is he not keeping Croatias number 1 out their line up?

Worth a shout, doubts remain over Bain,Clark and Kelly ever being good enough, and Marshall/McGregor/Gordon are ageing.

Dont see the harm in seeing how it goes.

Shut up.  If he's good get him in.

Regardless of his ability, the obsessive pursuit to find English players who are eligible to represent our national team is an embarrassment.

The fact that people like you do not see this says it all.

Auch sit doon.

Football is about winning games. Something we're not particularly good at. If bringing in players through some feint eligibility makes us a better team, the more the merrier.

Dont know about you, but when I watch Scotland I dont care if the players are from Govan, Inverness or Outer Mongolia as long as they give their all and help us win games.

This "not Scottish enough" patter is absolute throwback to the Rangers "must be a good proddy" guff.

Agreed, we must be the only country that does this.

You certainly wouldnt see teams like France looking at African nations for players, or the likes of Portugal trying to get Brazilians, and definitely not Germans hunting every Turkish player.

They are trying to find players who make the squad better.  Commitment also comes in to it but there have also been plenty of players who have been born in Scotland who clearly weren't that bothered (Boyd, Ferguson etc) where as players like Don Hutchison/Quashie who turned up to just about every game.

Graham Alexander was probably the most committed Scotland player of the last 20 years at least. Born down south, never played in Scotland, and didn't even play at  a high level in England until later in his career. His dad was Scottish and he saw it as the biggest honour he could realistically achieve. Worked his way up to Preston and started getting picked when he was 30, when most players are about to chuck it. Made himself a regular and ended up with 40 caps, was a big part of the improvement under Smith / McLeish (first spell).
