Solberg was £310,000! Sakes ebbe.

Tangoman spent reportedly £200k on Tommy Wright. He gave away the dumbest penalty ever and was shite. Recently at Tamworth and Nuneaton.

Makes the Winters deal look good. I liked Winters, outfield anyway.

Dougald McCarrisson, Celtic reserves goal machine.

Killie splashed out £100 000 in the summer of 93

Dougald decided to participate in a civic week pub game with his friends

and broke his leg before he had even kicked a ball for us.

1 goal in 2 seasons and shipped off to Hamilton as punishment.

Neil Whitworth and Colin Mckee from Man utd for a combined 350k.

Pascali I believe was last player bought over 100k.

It was £500k combined, majority for McKee!

Pasca was 100k.

Dugald McCarrison was £100k.

Paul Wright was £375k.

John Henry was £175k I'm sure.

Paid money for Ally Mitchell from East Fife but can't mind how much but think it was 100k. Same with Andy Millen from Hamilton.

Andy Smith was defo over £100k too.

It sounds more of a bizarre nightmare than reality but I'm sure, typical of our financial mismanagement at that time, Killie paid somewhere in the region of £150k for 32/33 year old Andy Smith who went on to score a full 1 goal for us.

Scored 2.

We've never spent six figures on anyone, so this thread isn't for me.

No, we bought Wes Hoolahan from Shelbourne for £100k in January 2006. Seems halcyon days now when you consider we’ve spent, recently, £20k (apparently) on Sibbald and £5k on Josh Mullin.

Some of the fees being banded around are here are eye watering and mind boggling in equal measure. Really puts into context just how mad the 90s/early 00s we’re in Scottish football.

To add to the names from earlier, there can't be many missing after these names are added to the St Johnstone list?

David Irons (Partick Thistle) - £100,000
Ian Ferguson (Hearts) - £110,000
George O'Boyle (Dunfermline) - £200,000
John O'Neil (Dundee United) - £100,000
Alan Main (Dundee United) - £150,000
Atilla Sekerlioglu (FC Tirol Innsbruck) - £100,000
Gary Bollan (Rangers) - £100,000
Paddy Connolly (Airdrie) - £200,000
Darren Dods (Hibernian) - £140,000
John Paul McBride (Celtic) - £200,000
Kevin Thomas (Morton) - £150,000
Graeme Jones (Wigan Athletic) - £100,000
Tommy Lovenkrands (AB) - £100,000
Paul Hartley (Hibernian) - £200,000

Afaik it was nowhere near £100k, highest fee paid apparently is Barry Wilson £60k from Inverness from what I know

Wasn't lovenkrands closer to £250k? Also Peaso I think was over £100k?

I think there is a direct correlation between the amount spent on transfer fees in the 90's and the number of clubs that went into administration in the first decade or so of the 21'st century.  Essentially a bunch of club chairmen were drinking the same Kool-aid as David Murray was at Rangers and throwing money around that they didn't really have assuming Sky would continue to fund the SPL, when the same chairmen made a complete arse of renegotiating the Sky deal from 2002 onwards it all went tits up

Please continue to enlighten us with your wisdom.

Saints first spent £100,000 with signing of Gary McGinnis from Dundee United in early 1990. Alex Totten would go on to spend six figures a further six times in straight deals before his departure in December 1992:

  • John Inglis (Meadowbank Thistle) - £115,000
  • Tommy Turner (Morton) - £100,000
  • John Davies (Clydebank) - £165,000
  • Paul Sweeney (Newcastle United) - £100,000
  • Paul Wright (Hibernian) - £285,000
  • Sean McAuley (Manchester United) - £100,000

Club record was set in January 1994 when £500,000 was spent on Dundee pair Billy Dodds and Grant McMartin. The former was valued at £400,000.

The last instance of the club spending six figures was the signing of Peter McDonald from Rangers for £125,000 in August 2001.

Meadowbank spunked some of that "Zeus" Inglis money on Derek Grant from Airdrie which may have been the most expensive signing in Thistle's history.

He wasn't the worst player in the world but I do remember him getting sent off in a pre-season friendly against Newtongrange Star for headbutting Star's Gordon Bailey and therefore missing the start of the season through suspension!

It's hard to get figures sometimes but club history has it at just £100,000. Often find figures that contradict each other as well when searching for fees.
