Berwick Rangers 2019/20 thread

I’m absolutely staggered at the wage bill. That can’t be surely just the playing budget but must take in the likes of officials wages/honoraria

More than we’re paying in League One!

Dropped back to 12th after Gala's victory over Caledonian Braves earlier. Clear daylight between us and Dalbeattie in 13th though.

Taking into account games-in-hand anyone up to about 7th could perhaps be catchable on paper. However until now we've only taken on average 1pt per game throughout the season.

The club's now selling the matchworn away shirts from last season - nightmarish memories but still an excellent bit of history to own;

Review of the shirt here;

And for posterity's sake, older shirts have been covered here, here, and here.

So from run v Gretna-Stirling Uni-Caledonian-Gala-Vale-Gretna there was 1 postponement and we took 8pts from possible 15... pretty poor albeit only 1 loss.

Far tougher month ahead as face EK-BSCG-'Shire'-Cumbernauld.

Shocked at the appointment of Younger as director with his VERY dodgy business and financial record. He's nice enough to speak to but very sneaky.

BE WARNED - KEEP HIM WELL AWAY FROM THE MONEY!!! 👎🚩🔥‼️

NEW DECADE - NEW GOALS - NEW BERWICK RANGERS

http://berwickrangers.com/a-message-from-the-new-board-of-directors-of-berwick-rangers-fc-plc/

A message from the new Board of Directors of Berwick Rangers FC PLC

Following last night’s EGM, the new Board of Directors of Berwick Rangers FC PLC – comprising Chairman Brian Porteous, Vice-Chairman Craig Forsyth, Dave Buglass and Douglas Younger – have released the following statement:

First of all, we’d like to thank all of the shareholders who attended last night’s EGM for approving our election as Directors. We are delighted that we can now progress with a short-term recovery plan until the end of this season and establish a longer-term business plan for the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons.

After an initial review, we’re aware of a number of challenges we’re facing in order to get the club onto a more stable financial footing. We have no interest in pointing fingers or looking backwards, although we feel as though we need to provide transparency to shareholders, supporters, people of the town and the wider local business community. Every recovery needs a baseline and we want to share that with you.

We will need everyone’s support in our recovery and we recognise that we MUST give something back to the town of Berwick-upon-Tweed and the surrounding area. We must become a TRUE community club.

As we work to stabilise the club, we will provide regular, transparent and honest communications. We will hide nothing; we will share all that we can and in return we hope we can rely on your support as we regain your confidence.

We will re-evaluate what the club means to the town and put plans in place to work out how we can re-establish it as a centre for aspiring boys and girls who want to play football. While every young footballer dreams of making it to the top, there is no reason why Berwick Rangers FC can’t be the first step on that ladder.

In the interests of openness, we would like to share our strategic priorities with you – the fans – in an open meeting at 7pm on Tuesday, January 28 in the JB Lounge at Shielfield Park. Our strategic priorities will take a lot of work to achieve, but we hope you will be enthused by our plans for the future of the Football Club and join us on that journey.

We can be no clearer in saying that your club needs each and every one of you to help. In return, you can be assured as a Board of Directors, we will do our utmost to modernise this famous club and ensure we give it the future its history deserves.

We want this to feel like a very different approach than in previous years and we understand that, like any business, we need to make change happen. Put simply:

A good positive sounding write up from Dave Buglass on the web site. He's correct about the old negative Berwick mentality. I agree that it would be nice to see Shielfield as the hub of football and possibly other sports for the area and for it to be open and busy 7 days a week. I've said for a while now that a women's team would be a great idea and if Dave could organise a women's game or two  it might spark some local interest in having our own Berwick Belles team set up.

Perhaps more music events could be considered to bring in revenue like a mini Glastonbury?

Write up sounds like the ego has landed.

"Calum joins us from Dundonald Bluebell after previous spells at Brechin, Forfar and Montrose". Bit selective choice of teams there. :)

Kelty, Bo’ness & Lithgae Rose would have been a bit more accurate...
