Berwick Rangers 2019/20 thread

Recommended Posts

So just like Willis last year, and many before. Healy manufactures a move from way back in November. He had no intention of playing for us recently.
See you next season son.
Miller, at least, gave a damn. He looked annoyed. He got stuck in, and some. He acknowledged the fans. He is probably desperate to play with winners. However, we are now a feeder club to non league sides supposedly a better option than us. Where has this all gone wrong? No wonder supporters and ex playing staff, directors and even onlookers and potential sponsors are baffled.
Everything that goes on smacks of despair. Fifteen points. Safety. Christ on a bike this is poor. Very, very poor.
Not wishing to endorse the trolls who should frankly take their face for one, the truth is currently we are a ship adrift. Yano isn't working. The board are insipid. Fans are drifting away. Bored. Disillusioned. Cheated. Whatever, we are done with this.
No football direction. Apparently no money. Now you sell any player worth watching. Even taking a part of our famous Shielfield pitch away that can never be put back.

New decade. New direction,please.

Well done to Berwick on overcoming the effects of the departures earlier in the week, and mainly on keeping those insufferable goal celebration gifs the Braves' twitter uses to a minimum

Mighty Berwick Rangers 1-0 Alba Indians

Not a classic, but we were the better team against a disappointing Braves... Osei scored well into 1st half when the Caledonian stopper failed to repel a low effort as he broke into the box. We improved during 2nd half - and while hardly 'cruising' it would have been very harsh not to have taken 3pts. Big team effort.

Encouragement for a depleted squad and shaken support, and with 3 winnable games upcoming hopefully the start of an uptick in results.

Average league attendance at Shielfield of 334 in figures up to the end of December. Though that is down 144 on last season that was boosted by almost 1,000 on the last day and falling from 450 to 350 is around what I expected. I'd also like to think we'll get at least 350 v Gala tomorrow and hopefully more.

If any consolation it's considerably in excess of Albion Rovers and similar to Edinburgh City and Annan. There are only actually 7 non-league clubs with figures better than 334 (Bonnyrigg, Formartine, Kelty, Inverurie, Linlithgow, Wick and Fraserburgh).

Figures are for league system i.e. pyramid. That also ensures robustness because... with exception of 10 HL, 3 EOSL and 3 SOSL clubs... all sides have returns for all (or almost all) games.

NCL and Junior clubs also recorded this season but response rates very patchy. Pollok on 530 and Largs on 239 the only with full returns - and only 8 clubs returned more than 4 games.

Auchinleck are 400 but from only 6 games returned.

Gala are a bunch of dirty cheating thugs. What they lack in ability or skill they make up for in dirty and dangerous play. Their No 6 should have been off long before he was. Then he had the arrogance to waste so much time on his way off the pitch. What a complete and utter ARSEHOLE!!!!! I hope his next shite is a hedgehog in reverse gear! (sorry hedgehog). 🤬

Well done on the fight back Berwick, it's a shame you were so gash in the first half, then the result could have been so much better for us.

Relief to rescue a draw at the death with a daisycutter which the Gala 'keeper appeared to leave thinking it was going wide?

Result and performance simply not good enough though. We were poor - especially 1st half. Lapse defending including from Darren Smith... appearing for Berwick in his 4th consecutive decade... saw us trail at HT, after Osei missed an easy header.

Better early in 2nd half. Osei burst in from the right wing and finished well to equalise. We put on pressure without much end product and had to rely on Brennan for a spectacular cat-like save. Gala took the lead again, after Galbraith got left totally free on the rebound from a corner. Even at 2-2 it took another great block from Brennan to share the points.

So having played them all twice taking 6pts from 18 v Gala, Stirling Uni and Caledonian Braves is dreadful. Doubt we'll finish top half now - top 10 probably the target.

club are to big to be playing in such a league. keep the faith guys!

They may have been bigger in years gone by, and at the moment are merely holding their own in the LL. For me it is a massive rebuilding project which is questionable if it will succeed.

So if I've got this right chairman John Bell lost his reelection vote 15/22, at which vice-chairman Colin Pike and the other directors stood down (another had already not sought reelection).

Brian Porteous has been nominated as chairman but there is no board for the moment. Andrew Allan is not joining the board? Supporters Club had not found a buyer for their shares.

Apparently a new board is being put together - seemingly including some 'old faces'. Probably not any investors though. Little and his management team have backing of new regime.

Someone on FB wants Shielfield rebuilt as a 3G sports community hub, or even a new stadium elsewhere in the town, but that's undoubtedly pie-in-the-sky stuff.

All the boardroom reshuffles, clear-outs, revolutions, coups and counter-coups of recent years leave me dizzy. Hopefully this steadies the ship financially and can build foundations for an onfield revival in the longer-term. Looking around the league - with the cash we've spent, crowds we still get, etc. it should be possible to at least become competitive in LL.
