A knockabout group stage game v Hearts is not one of Cove’s biggest ever games. As a stand-alone tie on a Saturday in the Scottish Cup it might have been.

Today’s crowd is 1,955.

How many Cove fans though? You get a lot of rubberneckers at the relegation play-off games. If there were one near me I'd definitely go.

Today's important, but for any non-league club a game against one of Scotland's biggest teams is a huge draw, and much more so when it's a competitive game. Linlithgow Rose had at least 1,000 home fans for a pre-season friendly against Hibs last year. It may have been a knockabout group stage match for Hearts, but not for Cove.

You'd think Cove would be more similar to Edinburgh City.

I think it's a bit fanciful to imagine these sides can attract lots of supporters, go full time etc. But as smaller part time sides in bigger cities, they can use that to their advantage. Edinburgh, possibly more so than Cove, but they'll have a big population to pull from in terms of part-time players.

Queen's Park's average attendance this season is 611, Edinburgh City's is 403. I'm doubtful about the idea of attracting floating fans in cities, I don't see it happen, although who knows how much of those averages are floaters. I went to secondary school a few hundred yards from Hampden, I knew of only one other person who gave the remotest shit about Queen's Park. But in Linlithgow, loads of kids have been to at least a few Linlithgow Rose games, even if that's not their first team, and they'll go along to any big games.

Well now I'm glad I never went.

We have the worst defenders, the worst midfielders, and no attackers.

Well done to all concerned with recruitment. You'd have employed Fred West as an HR Manager.
