Relegation Play-offs; Cove v. Berwick

Recommended Posts

Only just watched the highlights. That’s a shagging if the highest order. Looked like watching a game between a pro team and an amateur team- the sort you sometimes see as a gimmick in pre season.

Thoughts: the Berwick players looked miles off it fitness wise- and whatever they do at training, at that level players need to take responsibility for doing their own work too. It showed all over the park. Too slow, too weak and generally no one able to get about the park better than their opposite number. There should not be a gulf that big between two part time teams.

Defensively Berwick seem to have no player who knows how to defend. Individually and as different units they’re miles away positionally and no one seems to have any defensive awareness at all. Wide open every single attack. No cover, no shape, no balance.

There’s no evidence at all of a plan. I didn’t expect to see some amazing revolutionary thing in attack- hard to do that in two weeks- but defensively there’s no evidence of any work being done at all on the training pitch.

Sad, sad times.

Youtube auto played the Cove v Hearts highlights after I watched the Cove v Berwick ones. There was less of a gulf between Cove and Hearts.

I was at both games. Only one of them was even remotely competitive.

Loss of prize money.
Loss of entry into league cup.
Enter Scottish Cup earlier.
Lack of support in LL. Only Kelty average over 200 with 6 or 7 clubs less than 100.
Loss in match day income between lack of away support and reduced prices. The average is about £8.

If meaning next season we'd start Scottish R2 and enter League + Challenge cups.

EK (+ Bonnyrigg) also average 200+. 'Shire + Spartans just shy.

Most charge £6. Clubs set own prices.

I was going to type something negative, but I need to heed my own advice here; the time to point fingers and blame and get angry is on the evening of the 18th.
The slimmest of chances remain - a turnaround of massive proportions that you couldn't ever get me to bet on. Yet, we shall see. I wish the boys, John, and Yano all the best.
I would fancy a result, if only to make sure that Johnny Harvey and his gang of Facebook warriors will hold no illusions of doing a better job had they remained in place.

You are delusional if you think there’s hope. We’ll get well beaten again on Saturday.

The whole town is hurting, history down the pan, it is so sad, I would cry if I wasn't so angry.

I'm an old guy, but I never contemplated that I would see this scenario in my lifetime.

90 minutes to overturn 4 goals, not impossible, but totally improbable with the players we have available.

I have put the blame, fairly and squarely at the door of the regime in other posts and been criticised for this by the ST, SC and board followers, but this is my club, the club I love and have followed for more years than I care to remember, I have seen regimes come and go, witnessed Bowes, seen the club rebuild, each time while retaining their league status, this is just the worst. without question I will be there on Saturday for the final knockings and there will be a wee tear in my eye when I walk back into town. End of an era, so very, very sad, hope they don't play the last post:(:(

I can't be the only one disappointed that it turned out to be a football game they were showing after that intro music...

Watching Berwick getting shagged for twelve minutes passes off as a porno, arguably...

If only that were true, sadly the town of Berwick has very little interest in the football club except for the very big games. Large portions of the regular home crowd come from outside Berwick and have for many years.

Adamson Healey See

We'll still lose, but might have a few shots.

I hope Brennan, Orru and See are all fit...

...and someone explains the offside law to Adamson...

Anyone thinking Berwick have any chance

Yes. If they go all out attack. They need everything to go their way. Unlikely, but far from impossible.

Exceptionally unlikely. Not impossible, but neither is winning the lottery. If they go all out attack they could be picked off on the counter with ease and get another hiding.

They’ve no choice and if Megginson really is injured you never know.

Berwick have to score 4, without reply, to take the game to penalties. Why does anyone think that's in any way likely?

Saying 'if they go all out attack' is complete nonsense and laughably simplistic. So what if they did? It's no guarantee they'd get any goals and doing so would leave them exposed at the back. What if Cove went 'all out attack'? Presumably they'd win 5 nil?

Cove are more than a one man team, so even if Megginson is out it won't matter.

Folk are having a laugh or are at the wind up if they think Berwick will do it. I doubt they'll even come close to doing it. Saying 'they have a chance' is meaningless; Berwick had a chance to win League 2 but didn't, and they won't escape relegation.

They've only scored 4 goals since the 9th of March.

The last time Berwick scored 4 in a single home game?

The last home win which would be enough to possibly avoid relegation?

The last home win which would actually avoid relegation?

So they just need to win by a result that they've not achieved in 5 years.

It's very unlikely, but the game still has to be played. If the players think "ah well, we're stuffed anyway", then you might as well not show up. They simply have to go for the tiny chance there is left and go all out attack from the start. That will probably result in them getting a 2nd stuffing by Cove and there is no way I can see Berwick saving themselves, but they must at least try...
