Billy McNeill RIP

Recommended Posts

Sad news. He scored 3 goals for Scotland, the first in a WC qualifier at Hampden on 13 October 1965 in front of a 108,453 crowd. He opened the scoring but we lost 1-2 having drawn 1-1 in Poland a few months earlier.

I remember listening to that on the radio and nearly crying.

I never met Billy McNeil but Mrs Romeo did. He was at a charity ball for the Brightest Star Foundation. He chatted away to her and everyone else, she has a lovely picture of her and him together.

Some man was big Billy.

RIP

It is correct that his nickname is Cesar after Cesar Romero. You could argue it morphed into Caesar because of his leadership skills but his autobiography is entitled 'Hail Cesar'.

I did not know that. Still no excuse for Celtic fans spelling it "McNeil".
