ICTChris
The political wing of the New IRA had an Easter Rising march yesterday in Glasgow, George Square I believe. Apparently some Republican bands and organisations in Scotland support them over the Provisionals.

Makes me think the New Ira fed the police false information to lure them to a trap when the journalist was killed, already prepared for an instant riot with petrol bombs etc at the ready. There was some documentary team doing a show about them around at the time, maybe they wanted to spice up their image for the cameras.

Jacksgranda
I like him, that's what is positive... (Not Trotsky, McCann) I'd rather have 10 Eamonn McCanns on the council than 1 Gary Donnelly.

I’m bemused if not a little surprised at you bring a fanboy for Eamon McCann whose ultimate political goal would be a 32 county socialist republic within a world ran by the Fourth International. Now’t as queer as folk as the DUP would say or then again, maybe not.
NotThePars
Eamon McCann has always come across really well any time I've heard him speak. Went to see his talk for The Day The Troubles Began and was impressed by how active he is at 75.

Which immediately puts him on a higher moral plain than Sinn Fein and Gary Donnelly.

His argument at the talk over a United Ireland was using campaigns like Repeal the Eighth to build a United Ireland movement because campaigns such as that mobilised thousands of activists across the border to work together. Seems reasonable enough.

People before Profit are of course the 50 years on version of People’s Democracy. PD ultimately tipped the Failed State over the edge back in late1968/1969 by failing to listen to the moderates in the Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association (NICRA). The republican traditionalists of the late 1960s must have cheered themselves hoarse at somebody like McCann and Devlin grabbing control of the NICRA. Trots cause chaos and bingo it’s hello phone Seamus in Boston time again. Always thought Big Ian took the flak completely and McCann got the cuddly bear prize for the events in those couple of years. Truth was McCann and cadre took it right to the edge. Anyway McCann wouldn’t shoot you. His style would be more the re-education camp in Donegal. After a couple of years of dialectical materialism you’d be the model citizen of Connollygrad.
