Best i've seen Don Cowie play in a while / this season.

Agree, but I don’t think anybody watching would pick him out as the player with his pedigree. He should look like the class act in the game instead of just  a competent midfielder.

Underwhelming but successful [emoji818]️

Our season in a nutshell in that performance tonight. Think we are down to 5 fit defenders plus young Murray who has had 90 seconds of first team action. Good to see Grivo get a goal this season. Looked solid as well. As bad as we were (not that we were terrible) Dunfermline didn't create much.

4 draws and we're there [emoji6]

Tactics! We used them! That was a turn-up for the books; switching Stewart and Gardyne to let Gardyne & Mullin double team the right flank is what changed the game IMO.

Agreed, allowing Midge to move into the middle allowed a lot more fluency.

Also Stewart has been playing some great stuff these last few games, he wins 80-90% of his flick on headers, yet our reading and anticipation of them is still very poor. Stewart bossed their right back, who had a bit of a shocker second half. When Graham went off and Stewart moved central we struggled to get players close enough to pick up Stewart's flicks.

Worth mentioning again, Cowie was in the middle of everything good that second half, he looked really in the mood, hopefully he can pick up from this on Saturday against PT.

Positives:

That venison pie was epic, well done county on that

Thought the young lads did well tonight. Fais had one of his better games, we played well first half. Scully good game again.

Not so good:
Hippo and muirhead are not footballers, absolutely honking.

Bus broken down so struggle to get back home, however

That announcer is a complete an utter walloper. Cringey AF. Get him in the bin btw [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

It seemed to me to be more of a reactive switch to protect the left flank more than anything, but it helped massively in an attacking sense as well.

Dunfermline were the better team in the first half (thankfully they wasted a lot of their good possession in dangerous areas), County were poor all over the park but especially on their left side.  Gardyne was managing his injury and not covering the full-back to his usual standard, relying on others coming out to help and that caused upset in the organisation of the team at times.  Craigen must have had three or four unchallenged crosses from his overlaps.

The switch in positions between Gardyne and Stewart coincided with Louis Longridge going off.  Longridge had licence to drift in and link up from the left, which worked well because Todd was having success on the right.  When Longridge went off it was a more rigid midfield four by the Pars, Hippolyte and then Muirhead contributed nothing from the left wing.

SFSK had been discussing the switch for about 20 minutes before it eventually happened.  I thought that was the best that Gardyne has played off the striker in years. His chances to play there have been very few and far between, because County have tended not to have a left winger to balance the team out and he finds more space on the wing.  His link-up play with Mullin was refreshing to see.

Maybe, injury-permitting, that is the way to go for the rest of the season rather than playing two big lumps up front together.  Armstrong can come in on the left again if needed.  Stewart is hit-and-miss on the left but he does attack the far post well and can pin a full-back like he did to Craigen in the second half.

I'm not sure what the announcer was on, he's not been that bad this season.

MAKE SOME BOYS FOR THE COUNTY BOYS repeatedly used needs to stop.

Wasn’t at the game tonight, what did the announcer do?

That was clearly not the usual announcer, the guy last night was as cringeworthy Dingwallian as you could get. There's a group of us who sit together and we were pissing ourselves with laughter with the way the he announced Kenny's substitution (just before halftime) it was undiluted "rubber bumpers" for those who know what I mean.

Cringefest.

Don't get me wrong - it WAS cringeworthy.

But... You could argue that our graveyard of an atmosphere, even at such a key stage of the season, is even more cringeworthy. At another time in our history, where the crowd WAS making noise on a regular occasion, before games even kicked off, never mind before the team "gives us something to make some noise about" - at a time like that in our history, an announcer like last nights', (yes, down a notch or two), might not actually have come across as quite so weird.

It WAS cringeworthy, but at least there's some kind of attempt to bring some kind of atmosphere into the ground and get fans fired up - even if it was the wrong attempt. Hopefully more are around the corner, are better, and are successful.
