My brother has cancer but his condition has taken a turn  for the better , so we're gonna seize the moment and head to Brussels for the Scotland game. Cannae do the usual planes trains automobile  cheap option as we need a less tiring route to the game so is the Eurostar better than / less stressful as flying.  Any info on cheap tickets etc would be much appreciated.  Cheers in advance

Try https://www.seat61.com/ for trains and more specifically https://www.seat61.com/Belgium.htm

You'd need to go to Edinburgh for direct flights to Brussels (well, an airport 50km to the south), and flying on the day either side of 11th June is £277 return (without bags) according to google: https://www.google.com/flights?lite=0#flt=EDI./m/02rnbv.2019-06-10*/m/02rnbv.EDI.2019-06-12;c:GBP;e:1;a:FR*FR;sd:1;t:f

Where are you travelling from?

If you're happy sitting on a train for about 7 hours (+ changes) you could do it quite easily. Motherwell to Brussels would require 2 changes (Glasgow Central, and one in London where you'd make the short walk from Euston to St Pancras)

Ok. What about your plans in terms how many nights in Brussels either side of the game? Because it might be worth considering the Sleeper from Motherwell overnight as that would save you a night in Brussels.

Sleeper from Motherwell on Monday 10th at 23:59 arriving Euston at 07:07 (£170 cabin for two) then the 08:54 Eurostar arriving Brussels at 12:05 (£118) = £288 total. Hotel in Brussels or wherever on Tuesday night after the match. Either of you under 26 - as you would save money as a youth on Eurostar?

Wednesday lunchtime Brussels to Edinburgh for £185 total (maybe cheaper if booked separately), plus £20 to Motherwell. Or give yourself more time in Brussels and do the Eurostar and Sleeper on the way back for the same price (a slightly cheaper £72 on the Eurostar portion). = basically ~£530 total for two people.
For comparison, the cheapest trip on Monday during the day is going to Edinburgh, then LNER to King's Cross and then the final Eurostar of the day (£250 total). But then you'd need to pay for somewhere to stay overnight.

Looking again at flights - Edinburgh to Brussels via Heathrow on BA is £400-450, cheapest if you travel very early or late. Departs 9am on the 11th though.

Of course if you want really cheap and don't mind getting to Glasgow for 9am and enduring 22 hours of travel (change in London), take the bus for about £52!

Are you talking each? Because it's half that pp direct from Edinburgh to Brussels with Ryanair, leaving lunchtime on the 10th and returning early evening on the 12th. Would need a couple of nights in a hostel/hotel, but if I wasn't well I'd welcome avoiding the hanging about Heathrow and security again palaver. And being able to relax before and after the game and traveling.

No, everything in the post is for two people. The "direct" flights with Ryanair are £675 return on 10+12th (nothing available on the 11th). The BA flights with Heathrow change on 10+12th costs £650, so I agree the direct Ryanair option is better even if you have to pay extra for bags and you land miles away from Brussels.

Have flown to Belgium with Brussels Airlines before, not sure on prices, but they do fly to City of Brussels direct.

£620 for two people on the 10th and 12th, but flight out is at 6am - if you want it at a more civilised hour it's twice that price!

All the fares by plane or train are ridiculously expensive because of the game, more than 3x as much as normal. If you're brother is up to it I'd contact your local TA branch about a bus. Either that or a weekend in New York/Vegas instead.

Aye, still reasonably cheap flights, Bit cheaper from Glasgow than Edinburgh though less choice of flight times. Train's only a couple of hours.
