Ade Azeez scored against Celtic, Tony Watt scored against Barcelona. The Uniteds of Sheffield and Manchester are pretty much at the same pegging these days.

Also, what some people forget about transfer fees is that they're not only a function of ability but also time remaining on contract, age, potential, marketability, avaliablity of similar players, and a host of other variables.

People need to calm the feck down and get off the hyperbole express.

McBurnie seems to be making his mark - albeit gradually - in the EPL. Far from a world beater but not a hopeless oaf either. Good option for us, especially if he can get together some sort of run before March.

Same goes with Shankland, not playing in a glamorous league but he seems to have enough to offer Scotland something.

Griffiths and Naismith each bring something different and should be in the mix too, assuming both are fit and ready for March.

Of those 4 only griffiths and naismith can to our style imo

Mcburnie and shankland are penalty box goal poachers and not hold up men

We're not able to get far enough up the pitch often to bring them into the game

The one we need is Steven Fletcher who is perfect for our style and conspicuous by his absence

He's not even had the courtesy to retire

It’s unproven that he can translate it to a higher level - but that’s completely untrue about Shankland, he simultaneously performed both roles with ease when he was with us.

I think people assume that because Shankland scores a huge amount of goals he must be some sort of six yard box poacher who hoovers up everyone else's hard work. There's a lot more to his game than that.

From what I can see on the Russia news their football team will still be in the Euro's (need more clarification). Not as certain if they will still be a host, although it will likely be too late to take that away from them.

It does say "Russia's flag may not be flown at any major event staged in the four year period".

"Russian athletes and their support personnel may only participate in Major Events staged in the Four Year Period where they are able to demonstrate that they are not implicated in any way by the non-compliance (i.e., they are not mentioned in incriminating circumstances in the McLaren reports, there are no positive findings reported for them in the database, and no data relating to their samples has been manipulated), in accordance with strict conditions to be defined by WADA (or the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), if it sees fit), pursuant to the mechanism foreseen in ISCCS Article 11.2.6. In this circumstance, they may not represent the Russian Federation."

Surely they can't compete as a team of neutrals? Interesting...

So, the WADA vote on this is 9th December. Several of those voting don't like the idea of a blanket ban on Russia competing, so it's not a guarantee that it passes. Russia then have three weeks to decide if they want to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

I actually think he'd suit the way we play. Good at holding the ball up to bring others in to play and gets himself in the right positions. Having Christie, McGinn, and Forrest behind him would either make him look fucking superb or just really show him up as a complete donkey.

Would I like to see him called up? Definitely.

Should he be called up? Absolutely not.

 

Livingston definitely look much better just with him being on the pitch but don't think he should be ahead of Griffiths, Naismith, Shankland, Brophy, and even McBurnie in the pecking order. A lot can change in a few months though, maybe when he's finally back to full fitness he'll be banging in a hat trick every week and will be the man who sends us to, erm, Hampden.

Wouldn't think so, the vast majority of their players are based in Russia so won't be able to demonstrate a clean testing record.

I can see St Petersburg potentially remaining a venue as UEFA may not be legally able to get out of it. But it's going to be difficult for UEFA to resist WADA if the Executive Committee say Russia should be punted from the competition.

Read the article on BBC, and it's very vague.  The bit you highlighted seems written for Athletics, where it's possible to compete as neutrals, but it doesn't outright say that Russia are out of the Euros, more that their hosting rights get removed.  Even then you've got several outs that could see them avoid the worst of it.  The biggest being the "unless legally or practically impossible".  Decent enough lawyer could surely get around that, given I can't imagine UEFA will be that interested themselves in the extra work of moving things around.

I think the "legally or practically impossible" part is only for removing them as hosts. Although I can't see them doing one and not the other. If they're still hosting games then they'll likely be competing imo.

The Guardian have updated their article to say, "...the Guardian understands Russia will still be able to stage four games at the 2020 European Championship in St Petersburg. Because the Euros are a regional football tournament and not a world competition, Russia’s players would still be eligible to play in next year’s tournament."

The Wada statement mentions "major event" a lot. I guess it comes down to whether the Euro's are considered as major.
