Does anyone know when the league cup starts next season ? We have heard 10th July but surely that’s a fortnight too early ? We are just trying to plan our pre season schedule and as it’s nearly April surely the start of next season should be known to every junior club

I think the proposal is that the Sectional League Cup group games are played on 10th, 13th and 17th July, with the leagues starting on 20th July.

It is only a proposal at this stage I believe, but it is designed to get lots of league matches played early in the season while we have light nights, to help get the leagues finished in line with the pyramid requirements and play-offs.

I suppose it'll all be dependent on whether we actually join the pyramid or not.

thats still the kilmarnock and glasgow fair holidays , surely that proposal cant go through ? and some teams not us unfortunately will only  have around 2-3 weeks off , that is crazy
Its better than having games postponed later on in the season as we are seeing now.

My understanding is such an early start would be a one off. Seasons after would start at a later date to be determined. As stated already if the west enters the pyramid all league games would need to be finished in time for promotion playoffs which means finishing all league games by the last weekend of April.

The Premiership would be the only league that needed to declare a winner by mid-April. Everything else would continue as it is now. So why does the other 3 leagues need to start early? 47 clubs inconvenienced over 1 play-off place. If those 47 clubs said no to an early start, what then?

Which technically is really only an issue for the top flight - the likes of Darvel, Newmains and Royal Albert wont be involved in the LL playoff race.

Oh god can't drag yourself into the 21st century. Can't bear tof take yourself away from the 19 60s holidays. Surely they'd be better either doing away with league cup sectional or playing it at the end of the season

And that's one of the reasons interest in the pyramid has cooled with lower league clubs

Not sure where you got mid-April from, the EOS won't know their winner until 4th May this season. I think if Auchinleck keep winning they'd be champions on 15th May.

Many junior clubs are already playing friendlies at that time so it’s no great hardship using these games as preparation and it’s only for one season. If clubs vote this down it would be very short sighted imo.

Don’t hurt Darvel’s feelings, they might even be promoted to the Champions League by then!

Players have jobs and families and family holidays are taken round about then so most teams would inconvenienced by those starts some factories still have close downs quite a few players work in education so there holidays start end of June so it’s nothing to do with 1960s holidays stick to your eos forum wingnut

That’s correct they do, but the still peak over the summer months.

Many people involved with Junior football will have pre planned their holiday to be in line with the usual end of the season. If the season starts as early as 10th July then it is certain that every round have games will have at least a few teams with players and managers on holiday due to pre booked holidays.

Many guys who play / coach juniors also have young families, which means they go on holiday during school holidays, early July is peak holiday time.

A poster earlier compared playing friendlies to the season starting, there is a bit of difference is a meaningless warm up and a competitive game.

Expect to see a lot of trialists playing early in the season while teams try to fill benches.

When the season starts in August you still turn up to games where both teams have the odd players missing for holiday, July will be a lot worse.

Families mostly take holidays during school summer holidays and most people will already organised there holidays to change the season at this late stage could leave teams scrambling to put 11 players on park never mind subs
